Kathak-Bollywood & Contemporary Fusion Dance Classes
Whether you want the discipline of classical Kathak or the sheer energy of Bollywood, our fusion classes bridge the two. No prior experience is needed, just a love for movement.
A fun fusion of Kathak movement with music from the band Agam. This was from a performance at IIT Jammu, showing how classical forms can be adapted to contemporary sounds.
A spontaneous dance in the rain. This is what dance is all about: finding joy and freedom in movement, wherever you are.
An invitation to 'Sakhi: Seeking the Friend Within', a contemporary dance theatre production. This performance explores the theme of mental health through a fusion of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Oriental dance.
A teaser for our production 'Sakhi'. The piece uses contemporary movement and concepts to explore the journey of self-discovery and mental wellness.
The poster for 'Sakhi', featuring a powerful image that captures the introspective theme of the production. This work is a step beyond purely traditional formats.
Another poster for our contemporary production 'Sakhi', highlighting one of the performers. The makeup and expression are designed to convey the internal emotional landscape.
This poster for 'Sakhi' features my daughter Alar. The production is a collaborative effort, bringing together three dancers with different styles.
About this collection
In our fusion modules, we break down the abhinaya (expressions) used in traditional storytelling and show you how to apply that same nuance to contemporary and Bollywood tracks. It is about learning to hold your posture and move with intent, even when the music is fast and fun.
Fusion at Rhythmotion is not just about blending steps; it is about bringing the grace of classical Indian dance into a form that feels relevant and accessible today. When we create choreography for a Bollywood or contemporary piece, we carry the rhythmic foundation of Kathak footwork and the intricate hand gestures of Bharatanatyam into the movement.
What to Expect
Our fusion courses are structured as 10 to 12-session intensive modules. We strip away the intimidation factor often associated with classical training. You will learn to execute chakkars (spins) and hastaks (hand gestures) as part of a routine that helps you understand how to use your body, your breath, and your presence on stage. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone with a bit of background, the focus remains on the joy of dance.
Why it Works
We believe movement is essential for wellness. By mixing classical techniques with popular music, we make the process of conditioning your body feel like play rather than a workout. You will develop core strength and flexibility while learning a routine that you can perform with confidence. We have seen students discover a new relationship with their bodies through these classes—they learn that dance is not just about the final performance, but about the riyaaz (practice) that happens every single day.
Join Us in Bangalore
Classes are held at our dedicated studio in Rustambagh. We keep the groups intimate so that every student gets personal attention and feedback on their posture and rhythm. If you cannot make it to the studio, our online format uses video analysis to ensure you still get the technique correction you need. If you have been looking for a way to stay active, express yourself, and learn the roots of Indian dance without the pressure of a traditional conservatory, this is the place to start.
Rhythmotion
I am Chitra Arvind. At Rhythmotion, dance is riyaaz—it is practice that feeds the soul. My daughter Alar and I built this space to make classical arts like Kathak and Bharatanatyam accessible, whether you are looking for traditional discipline or the fun of a fusion routine.
