About Swar Yatra: USA Tour & Global Performances
When I tour internationally, I maintain the purity of the Etawah and Jafferkhani baaz regardless of the setting. Whether it is a quiet, candlelit performance in a Boston church or a high-energy fusion stage in Dubai, I insist on precise sound monitoring and specific miking for the sitar, ensuring the soul of the raag reaches the audience exactly as I intend.
Traveling across borders with a sitar is a delicate balance between logistics and art. I prioritize venues that respect the meditative nature of Indian classical music. In my recent USA Spring Tour, collaborations with institutions like the South Asia Institute were instrumental in creating a space where the music could truly unfold.
My approach adapts to the environment. For solo recitals, I focus on the traditional 'baithak' format, where the subtle nuances of 'aalap', 'jod', and 'jhala' are the priority. In contrast, for fusion concerts, the technical requirement shifts to include high-quality backline support and collaborative sound checks with tabla or western percussionists.
I am always looking to connect with music lovers and local organizers in new cities. If you represent a university, cultural center, or festival and are looking to host a genuine classical performance or a lecture-demonstration, I am open to discussing tour dates and logistical requirements.
