About Live Sitar Performances
My Musical Journey
For me, every performance is a swar yatra - a musical journey. The sitar isn’t just an instrument, it’s my way of sharing the soul of a raag with whoever’s listening. Whether you want quiet vibes or something that’ll get people’s heads nodding, I try to bring that same joy every time I play.
What I Offer
I play in a few different styles, each with its own mood:
- Solo Recital: Just me and my sitar. Very meditative, perfect for smaller spaces or if you want a peaceful, soulful mood. You’ll hear the raag unfold slowly (aalap), pick up pace (jod), and end on a high (jhala).
- Jugalbandi: This is like a friendly musical chat, usually with a tabla or other instrument. We bounce ideas off each other - keeps things lively and unpredictable.
- Fusion Band (Ravi Chary Crossing): We mix sitar with jazz, rock, and more. If you want something different and energetic, this is it. Great for anyone who’s into fusion sitar live band experiences.
- Sitar Symphony: This is a big one - a whole group of sitarists, sometimes including my students, performing together. Feels grand, works well for large events or festivals.
Where My Sitar Fits In
I’ve played everywhere from corporate functions to spiritual gatherings, palace lawns to university stages. Some popular choices are:
- Sitar concert for weddings
- Indian classical music performance at festivals
- Candlelight concerts
- Corporate and cultural events
Why I Play
No matter the place or crowd, my goal stays the same: keep the music alive, and take everyone along for the ride.

My Story
Music’s always been in my blood, growing up in Goa with my father, Pt. Prabhakar Chary, playing tabla at home, teaching me the first notes. My sitar journey took me to learn from legends like Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan and now Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. I love mixing things up - from pure Hindustani to my fusion projects like Ravi Chary Crossing. Passing this on to my students through Swar Sanskruti Music Academy is what really keeps me going. The tradition lives on, yaar.
My Work
Performances: Sitar, Fusion, Jugalbandi - I do solo sitar recitals, jugalbandi with flute, Sitar Symphony concerts, and Indo-Jazz fusion gigs.
My Style: Three Traditions, One Sound - My playing mixes Etawah and Jafferkhani baaz. Every show is a swar yatra, a musical journey for the soul.
Collaborations: New Conversations - Love jamming with musicians on tabla, drums, santoor, creating something fresh every time.
Teaching: Guru-Shishya Parampara - Through Swar Sanskruti, I teach sitar, keep the guru-shishya parampara alive, and host our annual Guruvandan event.
