What Learning Sitar With Me Feels Like

Teaching sitar is more like a swar yatra for me - a musical journey, not just some classes. I want you to feel the vibes of Hindustani sitar techniques while connecting to your own music story. We stick to Guru-Shishya sitar tradition (guru-disciple way), so I focus on sharing what my masters gave me, not just bookish gyaan.

How We Go About It

  • We start with basics: sur (melody), taal (rhythm), laya (tempo) - all the core stuff of Indian classical music syllabus.
  • Lessons follow a structure; good for clearing exams or just tracking your growth.
  • You get to explore styles - classical, light, folk, film songs, even sitar fusion workshops if that’s your jam.
  • Advanced students, we dig into raags, ornamentations like krintan, and gamak taan for that depth.

Classes, Workshops & Where You Can Join

  • Regular sitar classes in Kandivali (East) and Bandra (West). Group or one-on-one, whatever works for you.
  • Sometimes I run intensive workshops on specific sitar stuff - open for all ages.
  • My academy invites legends for masterclasses, so you might learn from Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan or Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, not just me.
  • If I’m performing internationally, I hold masterclasses for advanced players too.

Beyond Lessons: Your Stage

  • Every Guru Purnima, my students perform at Guruvandan - real concert feels, not just a casual jam.
  • If you’re ready, you might join Ravi Chary Sitar Symphony, my ensemble performing across India.

Music’s not just about practice - it’s about sharing, growing, and jamming together. If you’re keen, let’s see where the sitar can take you.

My Story

Music’s always been in my blood, growing up in Goa with my father, Pt. Prabhakar Chary, playing tabla at home, teaching me the first notes. My sitar journey took me to learn from legends like Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan and now Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. I love mixing things up - from pure Hindustani to my fusion projects like Ravi Chary Crossing. Passing this on to my students through Swar Sanskruti Music Academy is what really keeps me going. The tradition lives on, yaar.

My Work

Performances: Sitar, Fusion, Jugalbandi - I do solo sitar recitals, jugalbandi with flute, Sitar Symphony concerts, and Indo-Jazz fusion gigs.

My Style: Three Traditions, One Sound - My playing mixes Etawah and Jafferkhani baaz. Every show is a swar yatra, a musical journey for the soul.

Collaborations: New Conversations - Love jamming with musicians on tabla, drums, santoor, creating something fresh every time.

Teaching: Guru Shishya Parampara - Through Swar Sanskruti, I teach sitar, keep the guru-shishya parampara alive, and host our annual Guruvandan event.
