Partner Poi and Community Flow Jams
Flow is best shared. Whether it is a partner poi routine or a group fire jam, I love the energy of creating and moving together.
An ode to the stall chaser, performed with my flowmie. Partner poi is a dance of trust and timing, and it's always a joy to create these sequences together.
My partner and I performing a poi sequence for the #samesamemarathon. I'm so proud of her for completing this challenge while taking care of our newborn. It's a testament to her dedication.
A partner poi session in the river. We may be rusty, but we're feisty. It was wonderful to get back to flowing together in nature, where our journey began.
A huge thank you to the team at Kappa Cultr for making our dream of curating a flow arts stage with homegrown artists come true. This is our dream team in action.
Two masters at work. A collaborative fire poi jam with a fellow artist at the Himalayan Flow Gathering, sharing energy and inspiration.
Our hearts speak the same language. A partner fire poi flow that shows the deep connection and non-verbal communication that happens when we dance together.
Two lost souls swimming in the poi pond. A beautiful silk poi duet with my partner on stage at a music festival, a moment of shared artistry.
A recap of the Himalayan Flow Gathering 2.0. An amazing event full of talented facilitators, artists, and participants coming together as a community.
A community fire jam has my heart. This is a moment of shared flow with my friends, where we all spin together and create a collective energy.
My niece is becoming quite the athlete and flow artist. Here we are flowing together on the beach, a special moment connecting across generations.
About Collaborations & Community Jams
Partner poi is not just about sharing the performance space, but learning to trust your partner’s timing as much as your own. When we work on a synchronized routine or jam in a local park, the goal is non-verbal communication. It transforms individual practice into a conversation between two people, which is where the real joy of this art form is found.
Flow arts has always been a communal practice for me. While solo work builds discipline and focuses the mind, partner poi and group jams bring in an element of play that is hard to replicate alone. We often start with simple stalls and weaves, learning to read each other's body language before moving into complex patterns.
Why Practice Together?
Practicing with a flowmie forces you to get out of your head and into the space around you. You have to adapt your planes and timing to match someone else, which actually helps you become a better solo spinner. We have hosted gatherings at venues like the Bangalore Creative Circus and shared energy at events like the Himalayan Flow Gathering. These jams are not about perfect technique. They are about the shared mistake, the laugh that follows, and the rhythm we build together.
What to Expect
Whether you are looking to learn a duet routine or just want to join a local fire jam, the focus remains on support rather than competition. If you are interested in a group setting, I often facilitate sessions that focus on:
- Synchronized movement and timing
- Non-verbal communication through props
- Creating safe, inclusive spaces for fire jams
I encourage anyone from absolute beginners to experienced spinners to join these jams. It is not about how many tricks you know, but how present you are with the people around you.
