Experiential Installation: The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
We turned a classic tale into an immersive retail booth. A space of quiet elegance, hidden secrets, and whimsical details designed to make you pause.
A wide view of our Mad Hatter's Tea Party installation, designed to spark curiosity. The space features a unique woven fabric ceiling, a long sculptural table for interaction, and custom globe lighting, all set against a backdrop of hand-illustrated murals that tell a story.
Another perspective of the installation, highlighting the keyhole motif on the wall and the intricate details of the space. The herringbone patterned flooring and the soft, flowing curtains create a sense of movement, guiding visitors through our whimsical yet elegant wonderland.
We used theatrical elements like dry ice to create a sense of magic and drama within the installation. This effect, combined with the warm glow of the pendant lights, transformed the space into a memorable, multi-sensory experience for everyone who visited.

About Experiential Installation: A Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Every detail here was built by local Mumbai artisans, from the hand-woven fabric ceilings to the custom ceramic tea sets. We used theatrical elements like dry ice and warm globe lighting to shift the mood from a standard showroom booth to an interactive space that invites you to linger and explore the details.
When we were asked to create a booth for the Design POV show, we didn't want to just build walls. We wanted to build a narrative. We looked back at pop culture staples like Alice in Wonderland and asked how we could filter that through a Purple Backyard lens. The result was this Mad Hatter’s Tea Party installation.
The Art of Experiential Design
We treat temporary installations like permanent homes. Whether it is for a brand event, a pop-up, or a retail environment, we focus on tactile storytelling. Our team collaborated with local karigars to fabricate custom furniture and display units that were not just props, but functional art pieces.
Building the Mood
- Lighting & Atmosphere: We moved away from harsh commercial floods. Instead, we used warm globe pendants and strategic spot lighting to create intimacy. The addition of theatrical mist effects was not just for show; it added a layer of depth, creating the illusion of a space that was breathing.
- Texture & Materiality: We paired raw elements like distressed wood and textured veneers with soft, layered curtains. The flooring featured a herringbone pattern that guided foot traffic, while our signature woven fabric ceiling softened the acoustics of the busy exhibition hall.
