Authentic Pottery Workshops in Kumhar Gram
Step away from the city noise and into the historic Potters Colony of Uttam Nagar. Join our guided sessions to learn traditional wheel throwing directly from the artisans who have shaped Delhi's earth for generations.
This is where creativity is unleashed. The central image shows the moment of creation on the potter's wheel, surrounded by photos of our happy participants and their handcrafted pottery.
A participant proudly shows off the mug she crafted during one of our workshops. Each session is a chance to create not just a piece of pottery, but a lasting memory.
We guide you through the intricacies of pottery, from centering the clay to shaping your final piece. Here, participants learn alongside our artisan partners in an outdoor workshop setting.
About Hands-On Pottery: Learn from the Masters
Since our workshops take place in an active artisan colony in Uttam Nagar, expect a rustic, open-air environment rather than a climate-controlled studio. You will be working with raw, natural clay, so please dress comfortably and be prepared to get your hands dirty as you learn the traditional, unhurried craft of wheel throwing from master potters.
A Real Connection to the Craft
Our sessions are not staged classroom experiences. You are visiting the working homes of artisans like Ganu Bhaiya and Karan Bhaiya in Kumhar Gram, people who have been at the potter's wheel since childhood. When you sign up for a workshop, you are spending 90 to 120 minutes inside their community, watching how they prepare clay and use traditional kilns.
What You Will Learn
We focus on the basics of clay modeling and wheel throwing. You do not need any prior experience to join. We guide you through:
- Centering the clay on the electric wheel.
- Shaping and molding your own bowl or planter.
- The importance of sustainable, eco-friendly materials.
Because we prioritize an authentic experience, your creations will be in a raw, air-dry state by the end of the session. We provide simple packaging to help you carry your work home safely.
Why This Matters
This initiative was born from Enactus Kirori Mal College to help preserve a fading tradition. By choosing this workshop, you are directly supporting the livelihood of families in Kumhar Gram, providing them with a fair income that competes with mass-produced, plastic-heavy alternatives. It is a chance to step back from the digital world, connect with the mitti (earth), and appreciate the labor behind the everyday objects we often take for granted.
Project JanBhoomi
We are Project JanBhoomi, an initiative born out of Enactus Kirori Mal College. We bridge the gap between urban enthusiasts and the master potters of Kumhar Gram to keep a fading tradition alive.
