Behind the Scenes: My Artistic Process and Creative Journey
From the first sketch to the final brushstroke, here is how I translate heritage stories into the art and furniture you bring home.
Creating original art is a journey of navigating your own self. This video shares a few glimpses of my process, from initial sketches and works in progress to the final paintings displayed in a gallery.
A new artwork beginning in my studio. This is the start of a journey, a mix of emotions and expressions that I translate onto the canvas. It’s a process of doing something new that also feels true to myself.
My Indian heritage is a constant source of inspiration. This video shows the evolution of a floral motif, from a simple line drawing to a fully colored design, ready to be applied to fabric or furniture.
About Behind the Art: My Creative Process
Every piece I paint or carve starts as a simple sketch, often inspired by my Jain heritage or the quiet stories of Indian traditions. I do not believe in rushing the early stages; sometimes I spend weeks on the initial motif or the wood polish, tweaking the hues until they feel alive. This is not just about making furniture, but about ensuring the final piece holds the same soul as the first line I drew.
How My Studio Works
When you commission a piece, we start a conversation. It rarely begins with a final product in mind. Instead, it starts with a feeling—perhaps a memory of a traditional motif or a specific colour palette that connects to your home. Whether it is a painting for your living room or a functional chowki for a ceremony, I walk you through the evolution of the piece.
The Role of Heritage
I often reimagine classic Indian elements like the Pichwai style or parrot motifs, giving them a contemporary breath of life. My studio in Bangalore is where these ideas take shape. I work with seasoned wood and high-grade materials, but the real work happens in the detailing. I spend a significant amount of time testing finishes—from matte to walnut polishes—to ensure the piece functions as well as it looks.
Collaborative Creation
Most of my work is collaborative. I rely on your brief to shape the direction of the art. If you have an idea, I sketch it out, we discuss the scale, and I tweak it until it matches your vision. My goal is to make sure the art feels like it belongs to you, not just an object that fills a space.
From Canvas to Home
- Fine Art: My paintings are stories in acrylic and mixed media. Each one is signed and authenticated.
- Furniture: I design accent pieces like wingback chairs and nesting tables that prioritize both comfort and aesthetics.
- Ceremonial Pieces: I create specific seating and tables for weddings and pujas, ensuring they are sturdy enough for tradition but designed with a modern eye.
