About The Creative Process: Behind the Art
When I work on a commission, I usually start with a rough pencil sketch or a simple outline on the canvas. This is the stage where we finalize the composition and catch any adjustments before I even open my oil paints. It’s a quiet, foundational step that ensures the final piece aligns perfectly with your vision, especially for complex portraits or detailed deity paintings.
From Outline to Oil
The magic starts long before the final varnish is applied. Whether it’s a standard oil portrait or a 3D textured relief, the process begins with a conversation. We discuss your reference photos—even the old or blurry ones—and map out the composition.
My Workflow
-
The Foundation: I always start with a pencil sketch or underpainting. For spiritual deity art, capturing the eyes is usually my first focus because they hold the soul of the piece. You'll see this in my work; the structure is laid out before a single drop of colour touches the canvas.
-
Layering & Texture: For oil paintings, I build depth through multiple layers. If you've opted for my 3D textured work, this is where I use molding paste or clay to sculpt elements like jewelry or fabric folds. This stage requires patience, as the medium needs time to dry and cure before painting.
-
The Final Touch: Every piece is finished with a protective varnish layer. It’s not just for shine; it prevents dust and keeps the pigmentation rich for years.
Custom Commission Timelines
Art cannot be rushed. Depending on the complexity and the medium—whether it's delicate glass painting or a large-scale 18x24 inch canvas—a piece can take anywhere from a few days to over 45 hours of work. If you have a specific date in mind, I recommend starting the conversation as early as possible so I can give your painting the time it truly deserves.
