Exploring Belly Dance and Movement Styles in Bangalore
Movement is my language, and sometimes that means stepping outside the jazz studio to find new rhythms. Here is a glimpse into my explorations beyond the basics.
Celebrating with the Samai Oriental Dance Company at a hafla. This video shows the joy and community spirit of a belly dance event, a style I also train in and love.
About this collection
These hafla gatherings are never about perfection, they are about connection. Dancing alongside the Samai Oriental Dance Company taught me that when we step out of our comfort zones, we find a different kind of freedom. It is a fluidity I try to bring back into my jazz technique.
I have always believed that limiting yourself to one genre limits your understanding of your own body. While my roots are in Rajasthani folk and my heart beats for jazz, belly dance has been a revelatory journey. It forces you to isolate, control, and eventually, surrender to the music in a way that feels almost meditative.
These moments at a hafla are more than just performances. They are a celebration of community and the sheer joy of moving together. Every new style I touch acts as a mirror, showing me a different facet of my own potential. This curiosity fuels my teaching.
When I return to my classes at Dside Fitness Studio, I bring these lessons with me. I offer my students a deeper sense of posture, better flow, and an open mind. If you are looking for a space to experiment with your movement in Bangalore, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to break your own barriers, my sessions are open. Come move with us.
