Bharatanatyam Classes for Kids in Bangalore
Watching our little ones master their mudras is pure joy. We focus on building a strong, authentic foundation in Bharatanatyam through fun, structured sessions that nurture confidence in every child.
The first steps in a long, beautiful journey. Here, our instructor Ahalya is teaching the fundamental footwork and postures of Bharatanatyam to our youngest students.
Our wonderful Bharatanatyam instructor, Ahalya, with her students after their Onam celebration performance. It's a team effort, and I am so proud of the community we are building.
My young Bharatanatyam dancers striking a classic pose during their Onam celebration performance. They learn not just the steps, but also the discipline and grace that comes with classical dance.
A throwback to a Ganesh Chaturthi semiclassical performance by our talented students. Even when performing semiclassical pieces, their classical training brings a unique elegance to their movements.

About Bharatanatyam for Kids
Ahalya, our lead Bharatanatyam instructor, ensures every class starts with a solid foundation in tattukazhu (footwork) and mudras (hand gestures). It is about much more than just the dance; we focus on building discipline and stage presence, helping our students transition from shy beginners to confident performers at community events.
Building Foundations with Joy
Bharatanatyam is a journey, and for a child, it starts with understanding the rhythm. In our studio, we strip away the intimidation factor. We believe that when kids understand the 'why' behind a movement, they enjoy the 'how' much more. Ahalya works with small batches to ensure that every student gets the attention they need to correct their posture and alignment.
What Kids Learn
Our curriculum is designed to be progressive but manageable for young dancers. We cover:
- Foundational Footwork: Mastering basic tattukazhu to build stamina and balance.
- Expression & Storytelling: Learning abhinaya to communicate emotions, which is a massive confidence booster.
- Cultural Connection: Understanding the mythology and history behind the items they learn.
From Studio to Stage
We don't just keep the dancing in the practice room. We actively prepare our students for stage performances, whether it is for a local festival like Onam, a school program, or our annual studio showcase. Watching a student who was nervous on day one perform with a smile in front of an audience—that is the real win for us.
Practical Details
- Batch Size: Limited to 8-12 students to ensure Ahalya can correct everyone's form.
- Frequency: 8 supervised sessions per month (2x weekly).
- Certification: Students are eligible for affiliated exams through Spring of Rhythm and Pracheena Kalakendra, giving them a formal milestone to work towards.
