Our Design Philosophy and Outdoor Tips
I do not just place plants in corners. I treat every balcony and terrace as a personal sanctuary waiting to be unlocked. Here is how I approach design to turn a plain space into your favourite spot at home.
In this episode of 'Let's Talk Paudha', I discuss five mental benefits of adding plants to your home. From reducing stress and improving your mood to boosting creativity, the presence of greenery is a powerful tool for well-being.
Have a small balcony? In this video, I share three expert tips to maximize your space: use space-saving furniture, install a vertical planter wall, and use mirrors to create an illusion of depth.
Here, I explain three reasons why focal points are important in landscaping. They provide structure, add visual interest, and can even create an illusion of more space, anchoring your entire design.

Green is the color of peace, and I believe in enhancing it. This image of a hanging planter casting a reflection in a mirror is a simple reminder of how adding green to your home can enhance your sense of peace.
Love the abstract aesthetic? I suggest adding a green touch to enhance the overall aura. A tall Bird of Paradise plant, for example, can complement modern art and furniture beautifully.
About Our Design Philosophy & Tips
Every design I create follows a three-layer rule: tall specimen trees for height, mid-level shrubs for density, and trailing vines to soften edges. It is how I ensure even a tiny, awkward balcony corner feels like a lush, multi-dimensional garden rather than just a collection of scattered pots.
My Approach to Green Design
I believe that a space should do more than look good. It needs to breathe, filter the air, and offer you sukun ke lamhe (moments of peace). When I consult on a project, I look at the light, the wind direction, and your lifestyle.
Practical Tips for Your Space
- Maximize with Mirrors: In small balconies, I strategically place mirrors to reflect foliage and sunlight. It instantly doubles the visual depth of a narrow space.
- Verticality is Key: Floor space is precious. If you are short on room, go up. I use vertical planter walls or suspended grid systems to add greenery without taking up an inch of your walking area.
- Select for Purpose: Not all plants thrive everywhere. I filter choices based on your environment. For high-pollution areas or AC-cooled offices, I lean towards NASA-recommended purifiers like the Spider Plant or Fiddle Leaf Fig. For sunny, open terraces, hardy, sun-loving varieties take priority.
Why Focal Points Matter
An empty balcony often feels like a transit zone. By adding a focal point—a statement floor planter, a water feature, or a piece of plant-based art—you anchor the space. It gives the eye a place to rest and turns the area into a destination rather than a thoroughfare.
The 'PaudhaWaliFeeling'
Design is subjective, but the feeling it gives you is real. Whether it is the rustle of bamboo reducing city noise or the simple joy of caring for a Jade plant, my goal is to make sure your space feels lived-in and loved. If you are stuck on how to start, I am here to help bridge the gap between your vision and a thriving reality.
