Getting recognition for my work feels good, but it is really the quiet hours spent waiting for the perfect frame that I value. Here are a few moments that caught the judges' eyes at the Sony Corporate Photography Contest.

My photograph titled 'Unconditional Love', featuring the Great Hornbills, received a Certificate of Appreciation in the Sony All India Corporate Photography Contest 2022.

My 'Pink Traffic' photograph of the Navi Mumbai flamingos was also featured in the Top Exhibited Photographs at the Sony contest.

'Jewel of Konkan', my shot of the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher with its kill, was the third photograph to be selected for the exhibition.

About Awards & Recognition

Winning recognition for the 'Jewel of Konkan' or my flamingo shots was a milestone, but these images represent years of learning how to anticipate animal behavior. If you want to get your own wildlife portfolio reviewed or need guidance on complex telephoto settings, we can discuss my mentorship sessions where I share these exact techniques.

Photography is about the patience to wait for a story to unfold, and sometimes, that story lands you on a stage. Being selected for the Sony All India Corporate Photography Contest in 2022 was a proud moment in my journey as a birder. It was not just about the trophy; it was about seeing the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, the flamingos of Navi Mumbai, and the Great Hornbills appreciated by a wider audience.

My approach to these shots, whether it was capturing the 'Jewel of Konkan' in the Western Ghats or the 'Pink Traffic' of our local flamingos, remains the same. I rely on my Nikon gear to get crisp, high-resolution shots without disturbing the subjects. I believe in minimal post-processing to keep the raw beauty of nature intact, which is why I focus so much on getting the composition and lighting right in the field.

You might be wondering how to capture such behavioral shots yourself. During my 1-on-1 field sessions in hotspots like Thane Creek or Tamhini Ghat, I teach how to handle telephoto lenses and adjust shutter speeds for flight shots. It is about understanding the bird, not just the camera. If you have been struggling to get that perfect, sharp shot of a fast-moving subject, let us head out together and practice the techniques that got these images noticed.

I am Aashish, a birder based in Navi Mumbai who prefers the company of wild things over anything else. When I am not chasing rain in the forest, I am likely waiting on my balcony or in the wetlands, camera in hand. I do not just take photos; I wait for the moment nature reveals itself.
