These images represent the essence of my journey as a storyteller in the wild—from the intense gaze of a raptor to the delicate rhythms of bird courtship in the Delhi-NCR region.

This juvenile Black-winged Kite let me get incredibly close, resulting in one of the most intense raptor portraits I have ever taken. Its fierce gaze tells a story of a future apex predator, a moment of pure wild connection that required immense patience.

Nature can be savage, and I believe in telling its complete story. This House Crow with its kill is a raw, unfiltered moment of survival in the urban jungle, a reminder of the drama that unfolds around us every day.

I was thrilled to capture this Blue-throated Barbet in the wild, not in a hide. The way it perched on this curling vine against a soft green background felt like nature creating its own art, a moment of pure, vibrant beauty.

Witnessing a courtship ritual is a privilege. Here, a male Pied Kingfisher presents a fish to the female. Her acceptance of this gift is a crucial part of their bonding, a delicate story of partnership in the wild.

While birds are my first love, I am a storyteller of all wildlife. This shot of a young elephant calf, full of curiosity and life, was a touching moment that highlights the importance of conserving our magnificent megafauna.

The dance of the Indian Peafowl is a spectacle of colour and sound. Capturing this iconic display on film allows me to share the full majesty and romance of our national bird's courtship ritual.

Freezing the motion of a Common Kingfisher in flight is a technical challenge that pays off with incredible rewards. This shot captures the dynamic energy and iridescent beauty of this little hunter as it patrols its territory.

Night photography in the wild offers a different kind of magic. This Spotted Owlet, perched against the glow of a full moon, creates a mystical and 'owlsome' portrait that took careful planning and a bit of luck to capture.

In the early morning mist, I found this Egyptian Vulture pair sharing a quiet moment. The atmospheric lighting and their close posture tell a story of companionship and survival, a serene scene from the life of these important scavengers.

The forest floor is full of stories. I waited patiently in the shadows to capture this Indian Pitta, or 'Navrang', with a mouthful of worms for its young. The dramatic lighting highlights this intimate moment of parental care.

About Featured

Capturing these moments isn't about luck or specialized bird hides; it is about spending hours in the field waiting for the wild to trust me. Whether I am trekking through the wetlands of Najafgarh Jheel or scouting Himalayan forests, my priority is documenting authentic animal behavior rather than staged portraits. When you look at these photos, you are seeing the result of persistence—whether it is a Pied Kingfisher’s courtship ritual or the raw survival instinct of a house crow.

Behind the Lens: My Approach

Nature photography is rarely about standing in a comfortable spot with a long lens. It is about becoming part of the landscape. My work focuses on capturing 'the real stuff'—the stories that happen in the blink of an eye.

  • Unfiltered Documentation: I shoot without hides whenever possible. This gives my work a grounded, intimate feel. You get to see the subject in its natural state, not waiting for a pre-set cue.
  • The Power of Storytelling: A good photo should make you wonder what happened seconds before or after. From the savage reality of a crow’s meal to the tenderness of a vulture pair, each image is a document of life in the wild.
  • Technical Precision: My equipment, including high-end Nikon DSLR bodies with super-telephoto lenses, is calibrated for non-intrusive shooting. This allows me to get close enough to see the details—like the iridescent feathers of a kingfisher or the specific texture of an owl’s plumage—without disturbing the subject.

Why Collaborate?

If you are looking for wildlife documentation, whether for a conservation project, media, or fine art for your space, you need more than just a camera operator. You need someone who understands the subject. I bring research, behavioral knowledge, and field-tracking skills to every project.

My work ranges from Najafgarh Jheel in Delhi-NCR to the diverse ecosystems of Bihar and Uttarakhand. If you want images that tell a story—not just images that fill a frame—let us talk about your requirements.

Hi, I’m Sumit. I don't believe in staging shots; I believe in getting muddy and waiting until the wildlife trusts me enough to reveal their real stories. Photography is my medium for sharing these wild moments from Delhi-NCR and beyond, from the tiny फूदकी to the majestic raptors of the Himalayas.
