Bring the magic of Papagoya into your own living room. These simple, hands-on activities use everyday materials to turn playtime into meaningful learning moments for your child.

This dreamy cloud mobile is a perfect craft to celebrate the monsoons. Using cardboard, cotton, and paper, this activity brings awareness to the fluffy appearance of clouds and is a great addition to your child's room.

This simple umbrella craft uses bubble wrap for a fun painting technique. It helps your child understand the use of an umbrella while they enjoy the sensory experience of creating rainy day patterns.

This nameboard painting activity is a fun way to help your child recognize the letters in their name. Using tape resist painting, you can create a colorful piece of art for their room that reinforces early literacy.

Rainbows are magical. This craft allows children to create their own rainbow using shredded colored paper, helping them learn the colors of the VIBGYOR spectrum and practice their fine motor skills.

Inspired by the artist Wes Tank, we created our own "Dinosaur Rap." This video is a fun example of how you can combine music, rhythm, and storytelling to make learning about any topic more engaging.

About this collection

You do not need expensive toys to create a rich learning environment. Look around your home—cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, or even old newspapers are goldmines for creativity. We focus on 'Invitations to Play,' where we set up open-ended materials that let your child explore textures, colors, and storytelling at their own pace. If you are struggling to keep your child engaged without screens, start by creating a dedicated 'yes' space where they have permission to make a mess and experiment with these simple supplies.

At Papagoya, we believe that the most powerful learning happens when a child feels safe to experiment. The DIY activities shown here are designed to build skills without the pressure of a structured curriculum. For instance, our 'Nameboard' painting helps children develop early literacy through tactile recognition, while simple crafts like the cloud mobile or umbrella painting build fine motor control and scientific curiosity about the weather.

Why DIY Play Matters

  • Cognitive Development: When children transform recycled materials into art, they learn problem-solving and spatial awareness.
  • Emotional Safety: Play allows children to express feelings in a non-verbal way. A 'dinosaur rap' or a simple puppet show can help a child process their emotions or anxieties in a healthy manner.
  • Parent-Child Bonding: These activities are not meant to keep the child busy while you work; they are invitations for you to sit, listen, and participate. Being a 'play partner' creates deep trust.

If you enjoy these home activities, we invite you to experience our full-scale learning environment. We operate play-based kindergartens and micro-schools across Bengaluru, including Cambridge Layout, Kumara Park, and Frazer Town. We also host regular Parent-Child Thematic Weekend Workshops where we guide you through these processes in person, providing sustainable materials and a community of like-minded parents.

I'm Helen, and I started Papagoya because I believe play is a child's fundamental right. My team of Playmakers and I love showing families that you don't need fancy equipment to build curiosity—just a bit of cardboard, some imagination, and a willingness to get messy together.
