About this collection
Standing on stage to receive the Vachana Sahityashri award alongside legends like Go. Ru. Channabasappa was a powerful reminder that this art is much bigger than any one person. These moments of recognition are not just personal milestones to be placed on a shelf, but a call to continue the kalatmaka jawabdari—the artistic responsibility—that we share as a community. My work is only as deep and impactful as the mentors and the incredible team who support me every day.
Receiving the Vachana Sahityashri award from the Basava Vedike was a particularly significant honour. Basavanna’s philosophy has been a guiding light in my life, and being recognized for my contributions to Vachana Sahitya is a blessing I carry with immense gratitude. It is a privilege to bring ancient poetry into modern musical spaces, and having that effort acknowledged helps bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and today's audience.
Equally, the Karnataka Women Achievers Award (KWAA) for Excellence in Music holds a special place in my heart. Celebrating these achievements alongside such accomplished women reminded me that art, especially when it involves social causes or inclusive projects, is a shared journey.
Why These Moments Matter
- Mentorship and Lineage: Sharing a platform with senior scholars like Go. Ru. Channabasappa is not just about the award, but about the lineage of knowledge I am privileged to carry forward.
- Community-Centric Art: Whether it is lighting the lamp at a ceremony or sharing the stage with my percussionists and students, these events highlight that my performances are never a solo act. They are a team effort.
- Responsibility: Every award is a nudge to keep going, to keep researching, and to ensure that the music we create remains authentic, inclusive, and grounded in the stories that define us.
I view these accolades as encouragement to continue exploring, to dive deeper into Kannada literature, and to keep sharing the warmth of our cultural traditions with you.
