Our Story and Philosophy
We are a center for artistic and cultural education. We believe in teaching belly dance with respect for its origins, exploring its history, and using it as a tool for storytelling and self-expression.
Three must-checks every student should do before joining a dance class: know the style, know your teacher, and ask the right questions about the course format and school values.
This month marks 7 years of Nrityakosh. From a fledgling school started by an independent artist, we have grown into a thriving community with a team of instructors across the city.
It all began in 2016. Before Nrityakosh was a school, our founder created a structured Oriental course to teach belly dance as a classical form, not just a fitness module. This laid the foundation for our ethos.
A look back at our beginnings in 2016-17, from our first showcase built around 'Bhava' and 'Rasa' to the launch of our community initiative, the Performance Lab.
Highlighting our milestones from 2018-19, including the mammoth production 'Safar-e-Raqs', the beginnings of our Indian Fusion repertoire, and our founder's Datura 8 Elements certification.

Our curriculum includes understanding the history and culture behind the dance, as we believe it's essential for a respectful practice.
About Our Story & Philosophy
Unlike standard dance classes that focus solely on fitness, our training centers on an 8-month structured certification program. We prioritize biomechanics, rhythm identification, and cultural context so you understand the origin of every movement you learn, whether you join us in our HSR Layout studio or via our hybrid online format.
At Nrityakosh, we define our school by an art-first approach. When I started this journey in 2016, I noticed that belly dance was often treated as a casual fitness module. I wanted to build a space where students explore the depth of this practice, looking at its roots in the MENAHT region and its evolution as a language of movement.
Why We Teach Differently
Our curriculum is built on the belief that a dancer must be a thinker. We do not just show you how to move your hips; we teach you how to hear the Middle Eastern rhythms, identify the musical nuances, and apply proper posture alignment to prevent injury. Our 8-month beginner certification is the core of this philosophy, providing a progressive learning path that ensures you actually understand the technique before attempting advanced styles like Baladi or Raqs Sharqi.
A Community of Dancers
We are more than a school. We are a tribe. This is why our community includes everyone, regardless of age, body type, or background. We facilitate this through our Performance Labs and student Haflas, which are non-competitive spaces designed for you to test your skills and find your unique artistic voice. Whether you are aiming for professional performance or simply looking for a new hobby that challenges your mind and body, you will find peers who support your growth.
Hybrid Access Across Bangalore
We understand that life is busy. Our hybrid module allows you to alternate between in-studio sessions in locations like HSR Layout, Indiranagar, and Koramangala, and live online classes via Zoom. Every session is recorded, giving you the flexibility to practice at home and catch up if you miss a class.
Nrityakosh
I founded Nrityakosh to create a space where belly dance is studied with the respect of a classical form. My goal is to guide you toward becoming a thoughtful dancer who understands the history and emotion behind every movement.
