Sacred Mandap Designs for Mumbai Weddings
The mandap is the focal point of your ceremony. We design structures that balance traditional significance with your personal style, whether you want an open-air circular dome or a grand square canopy.
This is one of my favorite mandap designs, featuring a dome structure completely covered in pastel pink and white roses. Setting it against a natural waterfall at the venue added a unique and tranquil element to the wedding ceremony.
About Sacred Mandaps
For the setup pictured, we worked closely with the venue's existing natural waterfall to frame the ceremony. When planning your mandap, consider the sightlines and natural lighting of your chosen venue, as these factors dictate whether a heavy floral canopy or a sleeker, open-truss design will best complement the space.
How We Build Your Mandap
A mandap is more than just a backdrop; it is a structural element that needs to be both visually striking and practically sound. Whether you opt for our 10ft circular dome or a 12ft square canopy, we focus on the stability of the structure first. We use durable metal trussing or carved fiber pillars to ensure safety, even when adorned with heavy floral arrangements.
Material and Floral Choices
To balance budget and aesthetics, we mix premium 'Real-Touch' artificial flowers for the upper canopy—where volume is needed—with fresh roses, carnations, and orchids at eye level. This approach keeps the structure looking full and vibrant throughout long ceremonies without the wilting issues associated with using fresh flowers for the entire canopy.
Lighting and Comfort
Lighting is critical for mandap photography. We include standard halogen lighting to ensure the priest and couple are clearly visible for rituals, supplemented by LED Par Cans for pillar uplighting. If you are planning an evening ceremony, we can integrate crystal latkans or hanging floral strings to catch the light, adding depth to your wedding photos.
Practical Considerations
- Flooring: We always recommend a raised wooden platform (approx. 1ft height) to ensure the mandap stands out and provides a clean, dry surface for the havan kund and seating.
- Space: A 10-12ft diameter is standard, but we adjust dimensions based on the venue's available area. We will measure the site to confirm if a circular dome or a square structure fits the flow of your venue better.
- Timeline: For complex structures, we require access to the venue at least 6 to 8 hours prior to the ceremony to ensure the floral pasting and lighting are perfectly aligned.
