About Sacred Mandaps & Ceremonies
Designing an outdoor mandap is not just about the floral density; it is about how we handle the natural environment. Whether we are anchoring a heavy structure under an old banyan tree or creating a mirror-finished platform that catches the sunset, I focus on structural integrity that allows the design to remain elegant without distracting from the ceremony itself.
A ceremony design is about striking the right balance between opulence and intimacy. My approach to mandap design starts with understanding the space and the light. If we are working in an outdoor garden, I often use the existing trees as part of the structure, letting natural light play through hanging crystals and floral garlands. For indoor or structured outdoor spaces, I prefer building custom frameworks, often incorporating glass mirrors or gold-dusted pillars to elevate the aesthetic.
Whether it is a minimal 10x10 ft draped mandap with soft tulle for an intimate gathering, or a grand 12x12 ft floral dome for larger celebrations, the goal is always a cohesive visual. I pay special attention to the flooring, using reflective mirror-finish vinyl or patterned floor masking to ensure the couple stands out. Every element, from the brass candle holders lining the aisle to the intelligent lighting setups that highlight the mandap during evening ceremonies, is placed with intent. I do not believe in cookie-cutter designs; your mandap should feel like a sanctuary built specifically for your moment. From the density of the roses and orchids to the placement of the crystals, every inch is calculated to ensure the focus remains on the couple.
