Soulful Semi-Classical Dance Routines for Every Mood

Let’s get lost in the grace of semi-classical dance. From fluid motions to soulful Bollywood tracks, learn choreography that tells a story, captures emotion, and feels like poetry in motion.

A performance filled with emotion to the timeless melody of "Abhi Na Jao Chodkar." This routine focuses on soft expressions and the graceful flow of the anarkali, a key element in my semi-classical choreography.

Dancing to "Aashiq Tera," this piece is all about expressing love and longing through movement. The choreography uses the entire space, with elegant turns and expressive gestures that tell a story.

A beautiful duet to "Chaudhavi Shab" from Heeramandi, performed with my partner. This semi-classical piece showcases synchronized movements and the chemistry between two dancers, a skill we often practice in partner workshops.

A solo performance to "Tere Hawale," focusing on the beauty of surrender and devotion in dance. The choreography incorporates wide, sweeping arm movements and controlled spins to create a feeling of release.

A classic semi-classical piece to "Piyu Bole." This choreography emphasizes precision in footwork and the elegance of dancing in a saree, capturing the playful and romantic mood of the song.

A semi-classical choreography to "Yeh Tune Kya Kia," shot outdoors to match the song's expansive feel. This is one of my favorite routines to teach, focusing on connecting movement with nature and emotion.

Using a red saree as a prop to enhance the storytelling in this dance to "Tere Naina." In my classes, we sometimes incorporate props like dupattas or sarees to add another layer of expression to our semi-classical pieces.

About this collection

My semi-classical workshops aren't about perfecting rigid techniques, they’re about finding your personal rhythm through storytelling. We break down the song’s lyrics into graceful gestures and fluid spins, so you aren't just memorizing steps, you're actually performing an emotion.

Finding Your Story in Movement

Semi-classical dance is where my heart truly lies. It is the perfect bridge between the technical grace of traditional forms and the expressive, free-flowing energy of modern Bollywood. In my classes, we don't worry about being 'classically trained.' If you love the song, you can dance to it.

The Workshop Experience

Whether you are in Guwahati at my Athgaon studio or joining a workshop in Bangalore, the focus remains the same. We take 120 minutes to dive deep into one track. We focus on:

  • Expression: Using eyes, hands, and posture to convey the meaning of the lyrics.
  • Fluidity: Connecting steps with smooth transitions so the dance feels like one continuous breath.
  • The Vibe: We often use props like sarees or dupattas to add that extra bit of grace to your movement.

I’m Naina. By day I’m writing code, but the rest of the time, I’m probably dreaming on my feet. I started MAD Studios to create a space where we could just dance, no judgment attached—just that raw, happy feeling when a song hits right.
