Artistic Vases, Planters & Sculptures
For me, clay is a canvas. I love shaping these statement pieces, from organic planters to figurative sculptures, right here in my Whitefield studio. Every piece tells a story. ❤️
A clay sculpture of a dancing woman, captured before firing. I wanted to express a sense of graceful movement in her pose.
The finished sculpture of the dancing woman, now fired and glazed, standing next to two of my small planters.
Another view of the dancing woman sculpture alongside the green planters. They make a lovely little family of handmade objects.
Here I am, working on a figurative sculpture. It's a slow and meditative process of shaping and refining the clay.
A different angle of me sculpting. I'm using a tool to smooth the surface of the clay, getting it ready for more detailed work.
I made this hand-built lamp stand in a feminine form. I enjoy exploring different shapes and styles in my pottery.
This wavy, hand-built sculpture is designed to be a lamp. I had so much fun carving out all the little windows in different shapes.
A still from the video, showing the full height of the whimsical window-covered lamp sculpture.
Another view of the hand-built lamp. The odd, organic shape was exciting to work with.
A side profile of the lamp, showing its gentle curve. I can't wait to see how it looks with a light inside.
About Artistic Vases, Planters & Sculptures
Hand-building these sculptures is a slow, meditative process. Because I shape each one individually, no two pieces are ever exactly the same. You will see little quirks from the kiln and subtle marks from my fingers. That is what makes it soul-full pottery, not factory-made stuff.
For me, pottery is all about the feel. Whether I am throwing on the wheel or using coil techniques to build a feminine sculpture, I want the piece to feel like it came from human hands, not a factory line. That is why I embrace the little imperfections that happen during the firing process.
I love working on custom orders. If you have been searching for a specific type of handmade ceramic vase, a decorative planter, or a sculpture that matches your home decor, let us talk. You can choose the glazes, the textures, and even the motifs. I have done everything from Koi fish patterns to carved pet faces. We use high-fire stoneware clay, so your pieces are not just for looking at; they are durable enough for daily life.
Each piece typically takes about 2 to 3 weeks to finish. This covers the drying, glazing, and the double firing in the kiln at 1200 degrees. It is a slow process, but I find it really therapeutic and hope you feel that calm energy when you hold the final piece in your hands.
