The first 16 weeks are the most critical time in your dog's life. I help you navigate the chaos of puppyhood—from teething and crate training to conquering Mumbai's city traffic—so you can raise a confident, well-adjusted dog.

This is Cash, a young Labrador puppy on one of her first walks, feeling scared of the city traffic. A little bit of high-value vanilla ice cream helped turn a scary experience into a positive one, building her confidence with every lick.

Socialization is about exposure, not just interaction. With this fluffy husky puppy, Noor, I used everyday objects like pebbles, a wobbly board, and even a cement bucket to build her confidence and get her used to different textures and surfaces.

The monsoon is coming, and many dogs are terrified of umbrellas. Here, I'm showing how to desensitize a young German Shepherd, Mafia, to this scary object using positive reinforcement, turning the umbrella into a source of treats.

For a long-coated dog like Matty the Shih Tzu, grooming will be a lifelong activity. We started early to desensitize him to the feel of scissors and clippers near his face, making future grooming sessions stress-free for him and his groomer.

Teething puppies need a proper outlet for chewing. A good quality, natural chew like a bully stick is a great way to satisfy that need. It's important to supervise them and avoid creating resource guarding by constantly interfering.

This sweet indie puppy was abandoned outside a friend's bungalow. We took him in at my facility to assess his temperament and get him ready for a new home. He already knows how to sit patiently instead of jumping.

Look at this face! This is the little pup who was dumped and is now safe with us. He has the sweetest temperament and is friendly with everyone. Finding him a loving family is our top priority.

This is Snowy, a sweet girl up for adoption. People often say they want a "naughty" puppy, but a calm, gentle dog is often a much better fit for apartment living. Snowy is a cuddle bug who just needs a chance to open up.

After recovering from a serious illness, it was important to build up Snowy's strength. I'm adding a natural bone powder supplement to her food to provide the essential calcium and minerals she needs for healthy bone development.

It was wonderful to be the training partner for the World For All adoption drive. My team and I were there to offer advice to new families and help these wonderful puppies and dogs start their new lives on the right paw.

About Puppy Foundations

The biggest mistake I see new puppy parents make is trying to correct behaviour too early. Your pup is essentially a sponge for the first four months, and they don't have the mental capacity for complex 'commands' like an adult dog. My approach focuses on confidence-building and emotional regulation first. When we get the foundation of trust right—whether that's desensitizing them to scary monsoon umbrellas, loud city traffic, or just teaching them how to be alone in a crate—the obedience stuff happens naturally.

Building a Foundation, Not Just Teaching Tricks

Puppy training is rarely about how many tricks your dog can do. It is about how well they can navigate the world without fear or anxiety. Whether you are dealing with a nipping, energetic Indie or a sensitive breed, the goal is to create a dog that feels secure in your leadership.

Why 'Puppy Foundations' is Different

Many owners come to me wanting obedience training, but what they actually need is socialization. Socialization is not just letting your dog play with other dogs; it is exposure to the textures, sounds, and objects that make up their daily life.

  • Environment Exposure: We introduce your puppy to everyday challenges like wobbly surfaces, varied ground textures (pebbles, metal drains), and household objects that look scary to a puppy, like vacuum cleaners or umbrellas.
  • Confidence Building: If your puppy is afraid of the vet or groomer, we use desensitization techniques. We pair these 'scary' things with high-value rewards so that the fear is replaced by anticipation.
  • Teething & Management: We tackle the 'naughty' phase by providing proper outlets for chewing, which protects your furniture and teaches your dog how to self-soothe.

My Training Philosophy

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all training. I train you, the owner, to lead. By the time we finish our sessions, you will understand your dog's specific personality and how to communicate effectively using marker words and positive reinforcement. Whether we are working on leash manners or basic impulse control, the goal is always a strong, respectful bond between you and your dog.

If you have a young puppy, do not wait for problems to start. The sooner we start building the right habits, the easier the rest of your lives together will be.

I’m Mitali, and puppy training is where my journey started over a decade ago. I’ve seen enough 'naughty' puppies turn into calm, confident adults to know that it is rarely about the dog and almost always about the guidance they get in these early months.
