Behind the scenes of our handmade process
Welcome to my workshop. See how my small-batch skincare and haircare products are crafted, from the first measurement to the final bottle.
I am Renuka, the skin alchemist behind the brand. My journey started when I wanted safe, natural products for my daughter. This passion grew into a diploma in Ayurvedic Skincare and Herbalism, and in 2019, MadebyRen was born.
This week is about slowing down and getting the basics right. Here's a glimpse of me back at my formulation table, measuring and mixing. Good things take time, and every batch is made with patience and care, one step at a time.
The struggle is real, but so is the growth. This was a huge moment for me, unboxing my first filling machine. It's my biggest investment yet and a huge step up from my kitchen counter setup, helping me bring more consistency to every bottle.
Blooper alert! I designed a new label for my bestselling Hibiscus Shampoo, but it came from the printer in the wrong size. Thankfully, only 20 labels were printed. If you get one, you own a limited edition "oops" bottle. This is small business life.
I've received feedback that my shampoos are thick and hard to get out of the bottle. While I won't compromise on quality, I've found a solution. I now offer these reusable pumps that you can request with your order to make using my products easier.
For Mother's Day, I sat down with my Aai, my biggest inspiration. She shares her simple beauty secrets from her time, like using coconut oil for hair and a mix of rose water and glycerin for skin. Her message is simple: be natural and be consistent.
Ever wondered what 'Ren' means? In different cultures, it represents purity, renewal, and care. This philosophy is at the heart of my brand. I strive to create simple, effective skincare that nourishes and transforms, remaining accessible and uncomplicated.
It brings me so much joy to pack a repeat order for a dear customer. This box includes our dry skin face wash, CO2 hair oil, and a customized day cream. Your continued trust is what allows me to keep doing what I love.
About Behind the Brand: Our Handmade Process
I want to show you exactly where your products come from, not just the finished, shelf-ready look. My workshop is a space of constant testing, like the time my label printer got the sizes wrong, or the day I finally installed my first filling machine to make the output more consistent for you.
The Reality of Micro-Batches
When I say handmade, I mean it. I do not have a massive factory or assembly lines. My production happens in micro-batches, which allows me to control the quality of every single ingredient. Whether I am measuring out herbal extracts for my CO2 hair oil or preparing the base for my Hibiscus shampoo, I am involved in every step. This method ensures that the product you receive is fresh and potent, but it also means I have to be incredibly organized to keep up with demand.
Desi Jugaad and Problem Solving
Being a solo entrepreneur means wearing every hat. If a bottle is too thick to squeeze, I do not just ignore the feedback. I find a solution, like offering reusable pumps that you can request with your order. If a label design goes wrong, I learn from it. These little 'bloopers' are part of the process, and I share them because I want you to know the person behind the product.
Quality Over Speed
My goal is not to mass-produce skincare. It is to create effective, natural products that actually work. I often get asked why I do not automate more of the process. The truth is, some things cannot be rushed. Skincare formulation requires patience, precise temperature control, and a steady hand. By keeping the process small and manageable, I ensure that every bottle that leaves my workshop in Mulund is something I would be proud to use on my own skin or my daughter's. Thank you for trusting me with your self-care routine.
