Architectural & Facade Lighting Design
Light defines a building’s character after the sun sets. I collaborate with architects to create a timeless, dramatic nighttime identity for structures, accentuating the unique textures and features of every project.
For the Museum Inn's exterior, my goal was to enhance its classic architectural beauty. By carefully placing uplights within the arches and along the facade, I was able to create depth and highlight the intricate details, giving the building a stately and elegant glow.
About Architectural & Facade Lighting
On projects like the Museum Inn, I do not just point lights at the wall. I look for the rhythm of the arches and the texture of the masonry. By carefully placing uplighters within these structural features, we create depth and shadow, transforming a daytime static facade into an elegant, glowing presence that welcomes guests long before they step inside.
My Approach to Facade Design
Facade lighting is not about flooding a building with light; it is about defining the architectural intent. When I work on a structure, I start by identifying its unique features—the columns, the material finish, or the roofline. We use techniques like grazing to enhance stone or brick textures and targeted uplighting to emphasize verticality. The result is a structure that commands attention without relying on harsh, flat illumination.
Prioritizing Safety and Longevity
Exterior spaces are harsh environments. Every fixture specification I provide includes IP65 or IP67 ratings, ensuring they withstand monsoon rain and heavy dust. I plan for low-voltage (12V/24V) circuits to eliminate shock hazards, especially near walkways or water features. My designs are not just about the look; they are about technical reliability that lasts for years.
Collaboration with Architects
I believe the best lighting feels like it was part of the original building design, not an afterthought. I prefer to collaborate with architects during the planning phase to integrate light fixtures into masonry and facades, hiding the source so only the light effect is visible. Whether it is an urban hotel in Bengaluru or a resort in Goa, my goal is to make the building shine with intention.
