Featured Cinematic Lighting Projects & Technical Rigging
A showcase of our technical lighting solutions, from complex outdoor rigging and weather-proof setups to the precise artistry behind award-winning feature films.
This is what it takes to get the perfect shot. Here, a member of our crew prepares a Creamsource Vortex8 on a rooftop to create a realistic moonlight effect. We handle challenging rigging in any location to help the cinematographer achieve their vision.
For this television commercial, we engineered a massive overhead rig featuring a Litegear Auroris with a custom 10x10 soft egg crate. The entire setup was suspended on motorized chain hoists, giving the director of photography complete control over this large, soft light source.
We are proud to have collaborated on the film 'Santosh', which was shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards. Our team provided a comprehensive lighting package, including Arri M40s and Astera Titans, to help create the film's stunning and narrative driven visuals.
To create a powerful sunlight effect with sharp, distinct shadows, we mounted a Nanlux Evoke 1200 with an F35 fresnel lens on a cherry picker. This was supplemented by three Creamsource Vortex8 units to boost the overall illuminance, all powered efficiently from a portable generator.
Our founder, Mulchand Dedhia, designed the iconic 'Wendy Light' over 27 years ago for the film 'Holy Smoke'. This custom 96 bulb fixture was a game changer, and its principles of creating large, powerful, and controllable sources continue to influence our work today.
We create dramatic shafts of light using a combination of specialized equipment. This setup uses a K5600 Jokerbug 800 with a Bug-A-Beam adapter on an ETC Source Four, blending HMI and bi-color LED sources to achieve a highly controlled, cinematic look for a promo shoot.
This photo from two decades ago shows our gaffer Kamlesh with cinematographer Anil Mehta on the sets of 'Holy Smoke' and 'Earth 1947'. Our legacy is built on these long term collaborations and our commitment to training generations of skilled lighting professionals.
Filming on a high rise balcony during the Mumbai monsoon presents a significant challenge. We rely on IP65 rated fixtures like the Creamsource Vortex8, which are designed to be water resistant, ensuring the shoot continues safely without compromising on lighting quality.
About Featured
Rigging lights in unconventional spaces—like high-rise balconies or busy studio floors—requires more than just equipment; it demands a clear plan for power and safety. We’ve handled everything from rain-drenched shoots on the 13th floor to massive overhead truss grids. If your location is tight or requires non-standard mounting, ask us how we manage the power distribution and structural integrity before you finalize your shot list.
Our featured work is defined by the technical challenges we solve on set. When a cinematographer needs a specific sunlight effect on a restricted location, we don’t just pick a light; we select IP65-rated fixtures like the Creamsource Vortex8 and engineer a safe, weather-proof rig.
For us, the gear is secondary to the application. Our crew comes with deep experience in structural safety, whether we are building cherry-picker towers for large-scale outdoor shoots or rigging overhead grids in confined studio spaces. We treat every project—be it a TVC, a feature film, or a web series—with the same rigour.
How we approach complex lighting:
- Pre-Production Planning: We collaborate early with the DoP to understand the visual narrative. We break down scripts to identify rigging needs, power requirements, and potential hazards.
- Technical Execution: From complex DMX console programming for seamless transitions to managing heavy 3-phase power loads, our sparks and DMX operators handle the technical heavy lifting.
- Reliability: In a 12-hour shift, equipment failure isn't an option. Our fleet, including Arri HMIs, LED panels, and legacy tungsten, is meticulously maintained and pre-checked for every job.
We believe lighting is a craft of problem-solving. Whether it's creating fire flicker effects for a drama or high-intensity sunlight patches using Nanlux Evoke 1200s, our gaffers and best boys ensure the lighting design remains consistent and safe throughout the shoot schedule.
Light And Grips
I’m Mulchand, and along with Hetal, I lead a crew that’s lived on film sets since the days of Salaam Bombay. We aren't just a rental house; we’re gaffers who know that a lighting plan is only as good as the team that executes it. If you need a partner who values craft and precision over everything else, we are the team you want on your call sheet.
