Precision lighting creates the environment your film needs. We work directly with cinematographers to shape light, replicate natural sunlight, and design the atmosphere for every scene.

This is the result of the sunlight rig shown in our other work. The Nanlux Evoke 1200 with a fresnel lens creates the hard, sharp shadow on the wall, perfectly mimicking a patch of direct afternoon sun coming through a window.

The final look achieved with our specialized lighting setup. The combination of Dedolights and a K5600 Jokerbug creates these defined shafts of light and crisp shadow patterns, adding texture and drama to an otherwise dark and empty space.

A simple shot of a car outside a doorway, made cinematic through careful lighting. We created a strong, hard backlight to simulate bright exterior sunlight, which contrasts with the softer, ambient light filling the foreground interior space.

To create a single, powerful sunlight source for this TVC, we used a classic Mole Richardson 'Big Eye' tungsten fixture. The main challenge was carefully positioning the light and using flags to ensure it created a single, clean shadow as requested by the cinematographer.

We tested a large scale fire simulation effect using four Aladdin Fabric 350 LED units rigged on our custom 6x6 butterfly frame. This setup allows for dynamic, flickering light that can be controlled wirelessly via DMX for realistic fire effects.

This behind the scenes shot shows the tools used to create dramatic lighting. We used a Dedolight DLED9 and a 400W HMI, both with projector lenses, to create sharp, controllable beams and stripes of light on the character and set.

This behind the scenes moment captures the teamwork required to create a specific look. The lighting is designed to feel naturalistic, with hard light coming through the boarded up windows to create texture and shafts of sunlight in the dusty room.

This is an example of a minimalistic lighting setup for a TVC. A Litegear Auroris provides the top light, while a Creamsource SpaceX pushed through a large diffusion frame acts as a soft side light, creating a clean and controlled environment.

Part of our pre production process involves detailed planning. We use tools like sun path apps to track the sun's elevation and azimuth throughout the year, allowing us to schedule shoots to take advantage of the best natural light.

About Crafting Light: Mood, Effects & Naturalism

Getting a single, crisp shadow in a studio, or replicating the erratic nature of afternoon sun, requires more than just high-output fixtures. It takes precise flag work and rig placement. We do not just supply the light; we partner with the DoP to block, shape, and refine the quality so the camera captures exactly the mood you have planned, without wasting time on set trying to figure it out.

Lighting is often the difference between a shot that feels flat and one that carries the emotional weight of the scene. Our approach to mood lighting is deeply technical and rooted in decades of experience, starting from the film-heavy days of the 35mm era. Whether you need the soft, diffuse glow for a beauty shot or the hard, directional punch of afternoon sunlight, we rely on a mix of modern technology and classic grip tools.

Our crew is well-versed in complex setups. We frequently use tools like the Nanlux Evoke 1200 or classic Mole Richardson Big Eye fixtures to achieve specific shadow qualities that modern high-output LEDs struggle to replicate without proper rigging. For naturalistic sunlight, we do not guess; we use sun path tracking apps to analyze elevation and azimuth, ensuring the light hits the set exactly where and how it should during the scheduled shoot time.

Fire effects, shafts of light, and moody atmosphere are handled through precise rigging, often involving custom frames, butterfly silks, and DMX-controlled wireless dimming. We understand that on a commercial or film shoot, time is the most expensive resource. By bringing a crew that knows how to rig efficiently—using cherry pickers, trussing, or simple floor stands—we ensure the DoP’s time is spent on creative decisions rather than technical troubleshooting.
