Realistic Portrait Drawing and Sketching Classes in Kalkaji
Learn how to draw lifelike portraits and master the art of sketching. I run hands-on, weekend classes in Kalkaji where we focus on technique, from basic shading to detailed facial features. Whether you are a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, my studio is a space to practice and improve.
Students deeply focused during a portrait sketching class. Here, they are learning to capture facial features and proportions from a reference photo, a core skill for any aspiring artist.

Young artists practicing portrait drawing from black and white photographs. This exercise helps them understand light, shadow, and value to create realistic and dimensional sketches.
A student carefully sketching a portrait, using a reference photo placed right beside the drawing pad. This side-by-side method is a practical way I teach observational drawing.

About Drawing & Realistic Portraiture
In my studio, we do not just copy pictures; we break down how light hits a face to create realistic depth. You will bring your own sketchbooks and pencils, but I provide the focus lighting and a quiet space where you can actually concentrate. If you are struggling with proportions or shading, I will sit with you to correct your technique, not just tell you what to fix.
Mastering Realistic Sketching
Realistic portraiture is not about being a natural artist; it is about learning to observe. Many people struggle with portraits because they draw what they think they see—an eye, a nose, a mouth—rather than the actual shapes and shadows on the paper. In my weekend sessions, we start with the fundamentals: mapping out facial structures and understanding the values of light and dark.
Why Practice with Us?
- Small Group Attention: My batches are capped at 6 to 10 students. This allows me to walk around and give everyone individual feedback on their shading or line work. You get real instruction, not just a set of instructions to follow.
- Structured Learning: Whether you are a student or a working professional, my weekend schedule (Saturday and Sunday) allows you to focus on your art without disrupting your week.
- Focus on Technique: We move past basic sketches into advanced charcoal and graphite rendering. We cover anatomy, texture, and how to capture a subject's likeness using reference photos properly.
What to Expect
When you join, expect to get your hands dirty. I encourage you to bring your own art kit, which ensures you are comfortable with the tools you use at home. I provide the studio space, the lighting, and the guidance. If you are unsure if this is the right level for you, I always recommend starting with a demo session. It is the best way to see how I teach and whether the pace of the class fits your goals.
