Understanding Ballet Technique and Philosophy
Ballet is a science of movement, not just a performance. Explore the technical rigor, discipline, and training philosophy that builds a dancer from the ground up.
Are ballet uniforms just for looks? Our Artistic Director explains why proper attire, especially professionally made ballet shoes, is critical for safety, correct foot development, and maintaining high technical standards.
Does it take a certain intellect to learn ballet? Ms. Yana explains that ballet is not about being "smart" but about developing body awareness, muscle control, and a connection to movement, a process that is unique to every child.
How does a student progress to the next grade? We have a set criteria based on technical execution, musicality, and maturity. Our faculty explains what we look for before a student is ready to move up.
Did you know there are 12 levels in the Imperial Classical Ballet syllabus? Ms. Elina breaks down the entire journey, from Pre-Primary to the pre-vocational grades for aspiring professional dancers.
Precision is key in every movement. Here, Ms. Elina details the correct hip alignment for a dégagé, a fundamental step that requires control and stability to execute cleanly.
Mastering the fourth position. Ms. Yana demonstrates how to correctly transfer weight and adjust foot placement for a stable and graceful fourth position plié.
Why is thigh turnout so essential in ballet? Ms. Elina explains how holding the turnout from the hip creates stability and clean lines, which is crucial for everything from basic steps to complex jumps.
About this collection
Ballet isn't just about the steps you see on stage. It's about the hours spent understanding how feet develop and why a properly fitted professional shoe is a safety requirement, not a fashion choice. Whether it's correcting a dégagé or learning to lift from the core, our approach prioritizes your long-term health and technical growth over quick fixes.
At TLFCB, we treat ballet as a rigorous discipline. Our training is structured around the UK-based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus, which provides a roadmap for students to progress from pre-primary levels to professional-grade technical work. We do not believe in shortcuts. You will see this in the way our faculty approaches every correction—focusing on hip alignment, thigh turnout, and core engagement rather than just imitating a movement.
Our studio environment is built on a Montessori-inspired philosophy. You will see older students acting as guides, while younger children learn through observation and consistent, small technical milestones. This creates a culture of mutual respect and patience. For adult learners, the focus shifts to neuroplasticity, posture, and deep core strength. We strip away the stereotypes; ballet is for every body type and age. We are clear about the demands: expect to sweat, expect to work hard, and expect to be challenged. We provide the professional sprung floors and the technical expertise, but the discipline to improve comes from you.
