Handcrafted Solid Teak and Rattan Chairs
I design chairs that bridge the gap between mid-century art and daily comfort. Whether it is for your dining table or a quiet reading corner, these solid teak frames are built to age gracefully with you.
The perfect pair for any dining space: my 'Tara' and 'Jawa' chairs. The 'Jawa' features elegant arms while the 'Tara' is a classic side chair, both with bentwood frames and caned seats.
Meet 'Auri', a dining chair where mid-century elegance meets modern comfort. Its sculpted solid teak frame and woven backrest bring both style and ergonomic support to your dining space.
My 'Alto' dining chairs surrounding a live-edge teak table. The high, spindled backrest is inspired by classic Windsor chairs but with a modern, minimalist feel.
Introducing 'Romaji', a classic teak chair with a comfortable, curved rattan back. It's perfect for use at a study desk or as a stylish dining chair.
The 'Modis' dining chair, designed for comfort during long meals. It features a cushioned seat and a curved, angled backrest made of teak and rattan.
The 'Nevado' chair is a flawless addition to a dining table. The curved rattan backrest provides comfortable support, while the solid teak frame ensures stability and style.
A set of my 'Modis' dining chairs with their distinctive curved rattan backs, paired with a solid teak table. This combination creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.
A side view of a live-edge teak dining table paired with a rattan chair. The rich wood grain and natural textures are central to my design philosophy.
The 'Jawa' chair, a timeless design crafted from premium teak wood with a hand-caned seat and back. Its simple, elegant profile is perfect for dining or as an accent piece.
The 'Tara' chair, featuring gracefully curved arms. Paired with the 'Jawa', it creates a cohesive dining set that balances form and function.
About Dining & Accent Chairs
You might notice that chairs like my 'Tara' or 'Modis' models feature specific curves in the backrests. I design these for long conversations over dinner—the ergonomic support means you can lean back comfortably without feeling that stiff, upright resistance common in mass-produced seating.
Choosing a chair is about more than just aesthetics; it is about how it supports your body at the end of a long day. At my studio in Indiranagar, I focus on the intersection of form and function. Every piece I build starts with kiln-dried solid teak, ensuring the frame remains stable even in Bangalore’s fluctuating weather.
If you are looking for a dining chair that balances visual lightness with structural integrity, my hand-woven rattan backrests are a deliberate choice. The weaving provides breathable comfort, which is a practical necessity in our climate. I avoid exterior screws wherever possible, relying on traditional mortise and tenon joinery because it allows the wood to expand and contract naturally without the frame loosening over time.
For those who prefer a bit more plushness, my designs incorporate high-density foam cushions with heavy-weight fabric upholstery, designed to retain their shape for years. Whether you need a spindle-back chair like the 'Alto' for a minimalist workspace or a curved, armrest-supported seat for your dining room, I customize the wood stain and fabric to ensure it fits the existing palette of your home. Everything is finished with either a hand-rubbed oil or a matte PU coating that protects the wood grain while keeping it soft to the touch. Bilkul teak hai, as we like to say here—the quality is something you will feel from the moment you sit down.
Kursi Studio
I am the person behind every curve and joint in these chairs. My studio is in Indiranagar, where I turn raw, sustainably sourced teak into pieces that invite you to sit, linger, and stay a while.
