About Newborns: The First Few Weeks

The ideal time for your session is within the first 5 to 15 days after birth, when your baby is naturally sleepiest and most comfortable being posed. I schedule these sessions in my controlled studio environment to ensure it stays warm and peaceful, giving us plenty of time for necessary feeding and soothing breaks during the shoot.

Photography in the first few weeks is about more than just a picture; it is about freezing the time before your baby starts to change. In my Shimla studio, I prioritize a calm atmosphere that mimics the womb, using specialized swaddles, tiny props like miniature cribs and floral swings, and soft, natural lighting.

Why the first two weeks matter

During these initial days, newborns spend most of their time sleeping, which allows me to pose them safely and gently without disrupting their rest. If you miss this window, don't worry, but keep in mind that older babies may be more alert, leading to different, more expressive types of portraits.

What happens in the studio

My studio is designed to be a safe space for your family. We use hypoallergenic props and temperature control to keep your little one comfortable. Parents are encouraged to be a part of the session, as the contrast between your hands and the baby’s tiny features creates some of the most powerful and emotive images.

Preparing for your session

  • Booking: It is best to reserve your date while you are still in your third trimester.
  • Feeding: I always advise feeding the baby right before the session to ensure they are full and sleepy when we start.
  • Props: I have a dedicated collection of wraps, bonnets, and baskets, but you are welcome to bring a special heirloom blanket or toy if you wish to personalize the shoot.

Every shot is carefully lit and edited to maintain a soft, natural aesthetic, focusing on those delicate eyelashes, tiny fingers, and soft skin texture.
