Founded in 1924, Kaivalyadhama represents a century of merging ancient tradition with rigorous scientific inquiry. Discover the history and institutional research that define our approach to authentic yoga.

Our institution's history is deeply connected with the history of India. This image represents the bond between our founder, Swami Kuvalayananda, and Mahatma Gandhi, rooted in a shared belief in yoga and truth.

In 1927, at the request of Gandhiji's associate, our founder Swami Kuvalayananda traveled to Nandi Hills to guide the Mahatma in yogic practices.

Swami Kuvalayananda spent two weeks with Gandhiji, guiding him with a routine of specific yogic practices and a mindful diet to aid his health and well-being.

The guidance continued for months through correspondence. These letters from Gandhiji, archived at the National Archives of India, document their profound discussions on yoga and health.

We are a center for serious academic research. We congratulate Ms. Sanika Bam on completing her PhD Viva, reflecting the dedication and discipline that our research center stands for.

We are proud that our CEO, Shri Subodh Tiwari, was nominated by the Ministry of AYUSH to the Task Force for the Yoga 365 roadmap. This recognizes our institution's continued leadership in yoga education and research.

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Shivanand Ji, Residence Deputy Collector, to our Mumbai center. Such interactions allow us to share our vision for how yoga and holistic health can cultivate a more balanced society.

About this collection

You are not merely joining a yoga studio; you are entering a lineage that began in 1924 with Swami Kuvalayananda. Our methods are the product of nearly a century of peer-reviewed research, which distinguishes our practice from common fitness-focused trends. Whether you are seeking therapy for chronic conditions or a disciplined path into yogic philosophy, your journey with us is grounded in clinical evidence and a structured, traditional framework.

A Century of Scientific Inquiry

Kaivalyadhama was founded on a singular, pioneering idea: to study yoga as a science rather than as a fleeting tradition. Since 1924, we have functioned as a research institution, measuring the physiological and psychological impacts of Asana, Pranayama, and Suddhi Kriya. This commitment to data ensures our practices are not only authentic but safe and precise.

Connection to History

Our history is deeply intertwined with the development of modern India. Our founder, Swami Kuvalayananda, shared a profound connection with Mahatma Gandhi, guiding him through yogic practices and dietary discipline at Nandi Hills in 1927. The correspondence between them, archived at the National Archives of India, remains a testament to our institution's early role in promoting yoga as a tool for holistic health and national well-being.

Academic Rigor

We are more than instructors; we are educators. From facilitating PhD research to collaborating with the Ministry of AYUSH on roadmap task forces, we continue to influence the field of yogic education globally. When you practice at our Marine Drive center or engage with our certificate courses, you benefit from a curriculum that is constantly refined by contemporary scientific evidence while remaining faithful to the ancient scriptures.
