Heritage Tale Walks in Bengaluru
Explore the hidden layers of our city on foot. Join me as we walk through old Basavanagudi, where every street corner and ancient stone holds a story waiting to be heard.
Have you ever wondered about the stories behind the Naga Pratishtas, the snake stones under a temple tree? On my Tale Walks, we explore these hidden mysteries. Join me for a three hour walk through the old parts of Basavanagudi.
A glimpse into the joy of our Tale Walks. We gather, we walk, we listen. From the gazebo at Krishna Rao park to the bustling DVG road, we uncover the secrets of the city, ending the day with hearts full of stories.
About this collection
These are not typical history tours. Over three hours, we wander through the oldest lanes of Basavanagudi, from the ancient Bugle Rock to the scent of filter coffee on DVG Road, while I weave the mythology and local legends that shaped this city into our walk. You will need to pace yourself for a 3-hour journey, but we break for traditional snacks, so bring comfortable shoes and an appetite for local secrets.
Walking Through History
When we walk, we are not just moving from one point to another. We are engaging with the past. My Heritage Tale Walks focus on the ancient precinct of Basavanagudi, where the past still breathes alongside the present. We gather near Krishna Rao Park, and as we begin, the modern noise of the city slowly fades into the background.
What We Uncover
We stop at sites like the Karanji Hanuman temple to look at the Naga Pratishtas, the snake stones that sit under old trees. I share the stories behind these symbols—why they are here, what they meant to the people of the 1920s, and how they connect to the epics we grew up with. We climb Bugle Rock, walk the path of the original peanut markets, and observe the architecture of old shops that have stood since the 1940s.
The Experience
These walks are a shared space for connection. Whether you are a local who has lived here your whole life or someone new to the city, there is something new to discover in the way the light hits a temple wall or the specific rhythm of DVG Road. We keep our groups intimate, usually between 10 to 20 people, to ensure everyone can hear the stories clearly and contribute to the conversation. We also make a stop for local snacks and coffee, because a walk is always better when you share food and stories together. It is an honest, earthy way to understand the city and, perhaps, find your own voice within its history.
Geeta Ramanujam
I have spent 45 years gathering stories from every corner of this land, and there is no place quite like old Basavanagudi to set them free. I invite you to step out of the rush and join me to listen to what the stones and trees of our city have been whispering for centuries.
