Storytelling for Every Audience

I believe stories are for everyone, from the youngest child to the most seasoned adult. My sessions are crafted to connect with any audience, whether it's an intimate gathering in a library, a large school assembly, or a community event for families. I use a blend of folklore, myths, and original tales, often with puppets and music, to create an interactive and immersive experience.

Heritage Tale Walks

This is a unique offering where we explore old city spots on foot, and I narrate the stories hidden within the landscape. You will discover the myths, legends, and history of places like Basavanagudi's Bugle Rock and Krishna Rao Park, experiencing the city in a completely new light. It is a three hour walk that blends history, culture, and the oral tradition of storytelling.

Corporate & Institutional Engagements

I bring the power of storytelling to corporate events, leadership summits, and educational institutions like IIMs and international schools. These sessions are tailored to address themes like leadership, diversity, and inclusion, using anecdotal journeys and interactive performances to inspire and connect with professional audiences. It is about using the ancient art of storytelling as a modern tool for communication and transformation.

Literary Festivals & Book Launches

As an author, I am frequently invited to literary festivals and book launch events across the country. These platforms allow me to share tales from my published works, engage in panel discussions, and connect with readers and fellow authors. From the Ooty Literary Festival to the Neev Literature Festival, these events are a celebration of words and the people who love them.

Training the Next Generation of Storytellers

My passion extends to mentoring others through Kathalaya’s certified courses and workshops. I train teachers, parents, artists, and aspiring storytellers in the craft, covering everything from voice projection and puppetry to using stories for education and therapy. These residential and intensive courses, some affiliated with international universities, are about helping you discover the storyteller buried deep within you.

Kathalaya Community Events

Our center in Bangalore is a hub of activity, hosting monthly features like 'Kathasangama' and 'Open Mic' nights. These events showcase a variety of storytelling forms, from Japanese Kamishibai to fireless cooking tales, and feature both myself and other certified tellers from the Kathalaya family. It is a warm, inviting space for our community to gather and share in the joy of stories.

Awards & Recognition

Over my four decades as a storyteller, I have been fortunate to receive accolades for my contribution to education and the art of oral storytelling. From being honored as a "Master Storyteller" at the Udaipur Tales festival to receiving an award for "Exemplary Women in Education," these moments are a cherished recognition of my life's purpose. They are a humbling reminder of the journey and the impact of this beautiful art form.

Storytelling is more than a performance, it is a philosophy. Here, I share some of my personal reflections on the craft, from the importance of deep listening to the way we use space and movement. This is a glimpse into the soul searching and continuous learning that underpins my work.
