Chase the golden light of the Masai Mara with me, learning to frame the wild rather than just documenting it.

The face of an apex predator. This lion, shot in the Masai Mara, carries the stories of his life on his face. A powerful portrait is all about capturing that history.

A lioness sits patiently as a storm gathers over the Mara. The contrast between the calm subject and the dramatic sky creates a powerful narrative.

The king's rain dance. A male lion shakes off water after a downpour in the Masai Mara. Freezing this motion with a fast shutter speed creates a regal and dynamic image.

A magnificent lion under dark, dramatic clouds in the Masai Mara. This is what I mean by chasing the light, or in this case, the storm.

A young lion caught in the dramatic side light of early morning in the Masai Mara. I teach how to underexpose in these situations to create depth and mood.

About African Savannah: The Kenya Experience

When we are out on the plains of the Masai Mara, the light changes in seconds. I teach you to anticipate animal behavior, such as reading tail flicks to predict action, and guide our driver to position the vehicle for eye-level shots that make your subject look powerful.

Kenya offers a canvas unlike any other. Whether it is the vast plains of the Masai Mara or the dusty landscapes of Amboseli, the drama of the African savannah requires a different set of eyes. During our expeditions, we focus on interpreting this drama. We are not just here to fill memory cards. I work with you on reading the weather, tracking predator movement, and understanding how to use the golden hour light to its full potential.

My mentorship is strictly field-based. In the vehicle, we prioritize your learning. This means learning how to underexpose for moody, atmospheric portraits or using high shutter speeds to freeze a lion's shake after a rainstorm. We keep group sizes small, strictly limited to four photographers per vehicle, ensuring you get the space and time to experiment with your compositions without crowding.

We cover everything from equipment setup, such as customizing your back-button focus, to artistic choices, like when to switch to monochrome for maximum impact. If you have a specific goal, like capturing habitat shots or dramatic wildlife silhouettes, we build our days around that. You return with images that tell a story, capturing the untamed spirit of Africa in a way that feels personal.

I have lived for the wild since my uncle first handed me a camera. My office is the bush, and my goal is to help you see the light and shadow as a painter would.
