Every dish here is a story from my childhood. These are the faces and the messy, beautiful moments that make our cafe feel like home.

My son Zev enjoying a snack at a kopitiam in Kuala Lumpur. His happy smile is everything. These are the simple, cherished moments and food memories I hope he carries with him forever.

A quick selfie in the restaurant mirror before service. Seeing this space come to life has been a dream, and I am so excited for what's to come for Kopitiam Lah in Bengaluru.

My husband Vinesh, looking very much the part in his "Lah" t-shirt. It's a fun nod to the Malaysian slang that inspired our restaurant's name.

A candid shot of Vinesh at the cafe. Spending time with my loved ones is a luxury I cherish, and I feel very blessed and grateful for these moments.

About Family, Friends & Memories

Opening this space in Indiranagar wasn't about building a brand; it was about recreating the warmth of my Malaysian childhood. When you walk in, you are stepping into our dining room—my husband Vinesh is usually running the floor, our son Zev is likely grabbing his favorite snack, and the smell of toasted bread and kopi is always in the air. It is real, it is busy, and everything you see here is exactly how we live our lives every day.

I spent years in a very different world before realizing that my true passion was in the kitchen, specifically with the comfort food that raised me. A 'Kopitiam' isn't just a coffee shop; it is a community hub, and that is what I wanted to bring to Bengaluru.

Why it matters

This isn't just about serving food. It is about sharing a piece of my heritage. Whether it is the Hainanese-style Kopi C that powers my morning or the kaya toast that Zev loves during his summer breaks, every item on the menu has a connection to family. We do not do fancy, and we do not do artificial. We use imported Malaysian curry powders, authentic shrimp pastes, and traditional cooking methods because that is the only way to get the flavor right.

The Vibe

If you see antiques or old tins around the cafe, they are not decorative props. They are mementos from my childhood, placed there to keep the memory of home alive. Whether you are coming in for a quick breakfast set or a slow lunch of Nasi Lemak, know that you are eating food made with the same recipes I grew up with. This is my Malaysian story, shared one bowl at a time.

I am Joonie, the person behind the kaya toast and the kopi you are drinking. My kitchen is an extension of my own dining room—my husband Vinesh and our kid Zev are usually somewhere in the mix, and we are always eager to share the Malaysian comfort food that raised me.
