Behind The Lens: Process and Personal Work
projects, travel, and the constant search for light. this is where i keep the moments that happen between the big campaigns.
A behind the scenes moment, reviewing drone footage with the team. Collaboration with agencies, models, and clients is a key part of my process to bring a creative vision to life.
Out shooting on a bridge in New York City. I'm always exploring, camera in hand, looking for new angles and interesting light.
A self-portrait reflected in a small mirror on a wall in St. Tropez. Sometimes the most interesting shots are the unexpected ones found while walking around.
A ski gondola framed by pine trees in the snow. I shoot in all seasons, capturing the unique atmosphere of a destination whether it's a sunny beach or a snowy mountain.
About Additional Work
whether i am working with a crew on a luxury property or just walking through a city with a leica, the approach remains the same. it is always about finding the quiet space, the right light, and a story that feels honest instead of staged. the gear changes based on the needs, but the objective never does.
my work is not just about the final image. it is about the hours spent waiting for the light to hit a building in new york, the mornings spent freediving to find the right angle underwater, and the constant travel that keeps my eye sharp. this cluster represents that ongoing research and development.
the gear and the craft
i do not rely on one camera. for high-speed lifestyle shoots, i use the sony a1. for the moody, cinematic shots that define my personal work, i lean on the leica q3. i edit everything myself in lightroom and final cut pro, focusing on color grading that feels like film, not a filter. this consistency is what allows me to jump between a commercial shoot for a brand like the plaza and a personal street photography walk in tokyo without losing my voice.
why it matters
by documenting my own life and the projects between the main campaigns, i am constantly testing techniques. the drone shots in this collection, for instance, helped me refine the aerial storytelling i now offer for resorts. the behind the scenes photos show how i collaborate with models and agencies, a skill set that is essential when shooting a complex hospitality campaign.
i treat every frame, whether it is for a high-budget campaign or a personal project, as a piece of a larger story. when you hire me, you are getting a documentarian who knows how to spot the moments that matter, whether they are planned or found while wandering a new city.
David Courbit
i am david, but most people know me as jetlag. i live for the moments between the assignments—the ones that happen when you are just exploring a new city or chasing the light.
