Every creature has a story. This collection captures candid moments and deliberate portraits from my travels, where patience was the only tool that mattered.

A portrait of a Blue Winged Pitta in a community garden in Singapore. The soft, diffused light and green foreground create a beautiful, painterly effect, highlighting the bird's colorful plumage.

A slightly different angle of the Blue Winged Pitta. This shot captures its alert posture and the subtle details of its feathers, showing how cooperative this typically shy bird was.

A Hooded Pitta that made its home next to a badminton court in Singapore. This close-up portrait captures the beautiful contrast between its green body, black hood, and reddish-brown crown.

This portrait of a juvenile Indian Pond Heron is a personal favorite. The soft blue of the water in the background complements the warm brown tones of its feathers, and the golden light beautifully illuminates its form.

A black and white, top-down view of an Estuarine Crocodile. This unique angle emphasizes the powerful shape of its head and the incredible texture of its armored scales as it glides through the dark water.

A young Mangrove Pit-Viper in Pasir Ris Park. I used selective color to highlight its piercing amber eyes against the black and white background, drawing attention to its most captivating feature.

A Zebra Dove playing peekaboo in the tall grass at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore. The layers of green create a soft, dreamy frame around the bird, giving the image a sense of depth and discovery.

A female Siberian Stonechat perched delicately on a twig in Sultanpur National Park. The soft, out-of-focus background of dry grasses creates a beautifully muted color palette that complements the bird's subtle tones.

A male Pied Bushchat on a thorny branch. The simple composition and clean, warm background put all the focus on the striking black and white plumage of this small bird.

A male Chital, or Spotted Deer, in Satpura National Park. This portrait from behind focuses on the impressive size and shape of its antlers against the lush green backdrop of the monsoon forest.

About Portraits & Encounters

Getting the shot isn't just about pointing the lens. It's often about waiting for hours in one spot, getting muddy, and accepting that sometimes the animal simply won't show. Whether it's a Blue Winged Pitta at a community garden or a Chital in Satpura, I prefer natural light and keeping disturbance to an absolute minimum.
