Wildlife photography is not about seeing the animal, it is about waiting for the moment they decide to act. Here are the stories and behaviors captured in the wild.
Photographing a kingfisher dive was high on my list. After many failed attempts, I finally captured this female Common Kingfisher retreating from the water after a failed hunt, with the splash frozen in time against the dark background.

Getting these action shots is rarely about rapid-fire clicking. It is about anticipating the behavior, whether it is a kingfisher diving or a leopard stalking, and having the shutter ready before the action starts. Most of these frames were captured with a 600mm focal length, which requires steady hands and a lot of patience to track movement while keeping the subject sharp.
When you are out in the field, like at Jhalana or Sultanpur, the gear does not do the work for you. I rely on my Canon 80D and the Sigma 150-600mm lens to close the distance, but the real skill is in the anticipation. Take the kingfisher dive shot. It took three days of failed attempts—missed focus, clipping a wing, or just bad timing—before I finally caught the bird retreating from the water.
I treat every subject with the same level of intensity, whether it is a leopard in a high-speed chase or a drongo riding a spotted deer. For the Eurasian Griffon shots, I used a slower shutter speed to pan with the bird, creating that motion blur in the background that makes the vulture look like it is truly soaring rather than just sitting in the frame.
If you are looking for a print, know that these are not just generic stock photos. They are specific moments, often documented with the 'behind the shot' narrative, gear settings, and location details. Whether it is a small bird in a city park or a predator in the forest, I prefer shots that show the animal's character rather than just a portrait. I print these on archival-grade cotton rag or canvas to keep the textures, like the fur on a leopard or the feathers on a stork, looking sharp.
