The Subtle Luxury Penthouse, Bengaluru
A 4,500 sq. ft. duplex where ivory canvases meet vibrant interiors. This penthouse features a 14-foot living area, floating marble staircases, and biophilic terraces designed for refined comfort.
The entrance to the penthouse features a 9-foot veneer door that opens into the voluminous living space. I used a custom brass console table with tinted mirrors against a white grooved panel wall to create a welcoming and luxurious first impression.
A full view of the 14-foot living room, showcasing the double-height sheer curtains that flood the space with natural light. The layout is designed for comfort and conversation, with a mix of bespoke sofas and accent chairs in contrasting colors.
A walkthrough of the living area, highlighting the interplay of textures from the black marble TV unit to the rich wood paneling and plush furniture. This space was designed to feel both luxurious and comfortable for the family.
The cantilevered staircase, clad in black marble, is a central architectural feature of the duplex. I incorporated a small, skylit planter at its base, bringing a touch of nature indoors and creating a serene focal point.
A closer look at the floating staircase, showing how the integration of a live plant under a skylight transforms a functional element into a piece of biophilic art. The glass and brass railing adds to the modern, open feel.
This family lounge on the upper level features a bold tropical wallpaper and a vibrant tangerine sofa. It's a cozy, informal space designed for relaxation, with a custom ochre rug and a view of the lower level.
A glimpse of the dining area, which features a custom Italian marble table and a stunning crystal flower chandelier. The space is connected to the open kitchen and is defined by a wooden ceiling raft and a subtle leaf-patterned wallpaper.
About this collection
Managing a 4,500 sq. ft. duplex requires rigorous coordination, especially with structural elements like the cantilevered staircase. I personally oversee the installation of these floating features and the integration of skylit biophilic zones to ensure the final finish matches our original 3D renders.
Designing this Bengaluru duplex was about finding the balance between architectural scale and intimate living. With a 14-foot-high living room, the primary challenge was ensuring the space felt grounded rather than cavernous. We achieved this by keeping the base palette ivory and using tall, sheer curtains to soften the natural light, paired with deep wood tones on the ceiling to bring the focus down to eye level.
The floating black marble staircase serves as the structural heart of the home. I pushed for the integration of a skylit planter at its base, which creates a living, breathing transition point between floors. Every material here was chosen for texture: the cool Italian marble of the dining table against the warmth of the wooden ceiling rafts.
In the lounge, we moved away from the neutral theme to inject personality with a bold, tropical wallpaper and a vibrant tangerine sofa. It is this intentional variation—switching from calm, minimalist spaces in the master bedroom to expressive, color-forward social zones—that defines my luxury approach. Whether it is the fluted wall panels or the custom-made brass console in the entryway, the design intent is consistent: create a space that feels lived-in.
Designing for large volumes
How do we handle high-ceiling spaces? Large volumes often feel empty. We use vertical elements like floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains, statement chandeliers, and dark ceiling rafts to pull the scale down, creating warmth.
What about maintenance in luxury finishes? We prioritize high-performance materials like BWP Marine Ply for wet areas and scratch-resistant finishes for high-traffic zones, ensuring your interior finish looks as good in five years as it does on day one.
