Behind the Scenes of My Design Process
Good design starts with a conversation and ends with a solid build. Here is a look at how I manage projects from the studio to the construction site.
A typical mood board discussion in my studio. Here, my team and I are reviewing material samples, including tiles, laminates, and wood finishes, to create a cohesive palette for an upcoming project.
Site visits are a critical part of my process. This video shows me on-site, discussing drawings with the execution team to ensure that every detail, from the curve of an archway to the placement of electrical points, is implemented as visualized.
Work in progress at the Residence Sriyani site in Coorg. This video shows the foundational stages of construction, including bricklaying, which is the essential first step in bringing an architectural design to life.
On-site at the Sriyani residence project in Coorg during the early construction phase. Being present on-site allows me to oversee the quality of work and ensure the project aligns with the architectural plans.
Another view from the Sriyani residence site visit, showing the structure beginning to take shape against the beautiful natural backdrop of Coorg. This project is about creating a home that is in harmony with its environment.
About Behind the Scenes: My Process
Good design is only half the battle. The real work happens when we take those drawings to the site, reviewing material finishes and coordinating with contractors to ensure every corner aligns with our 3D plans. I spend most of my time here because I believe the smallest detail is where a house truly starts to feel like a home.
From Studio to Site
For me, architecture is not just about the final photograph. It is about the hundreds of decisions made between the first sketch and the final paint coat. My process begins in the studio with collaborative mood board sessions. My team and I spend hours reviewing material samples, looking at how light interacts with different textures, and refining our 3D layouts to ensure they are practical for daily living.
The Reality of Construction
Once the design is set, we move to the site. This is where my role shifts from designer to project manager. Whether it is a ground-up build like the Residence Sriyani in Coorg or a tricky renovation in Indiranagar, I am there to oversee the foundation, bricklaying, and electrical layouts. Being on-site allows me to solve problems before they become permanent.
Why This Matters
When we are on-site, we are not just supervising. We are checking the quality of BWP marine ply in the kitchen, verifying the slope of the bathroom plumbing, or ensuring the architectural lighting creates the right warmth. My goal is to ensure that what we visualized in the studio is exactly what is built in your space. This hands-on approach is how I maintain the quality of my minimalist interiors and keep the project on track, from the first measurement to the final handover.
