Architectural Lighting Design Showcase
Light is the jewellery of architecture. This collection demonstrates how we shape environments through precise, human-centric lighting design across residential and commercial projects.
This spiral staircase is a centerpiece, where light is the primary architectural material. I used a technique called wall grazing, with linear fixtures at both the ceiling and floor, to cast dramatic shadows and highlight the texture of the vertical slats, transforming a simple passage into a powerful visual journey.
For this Ambala jewellery store, the goal was to create an atmosphere of bright, clean luxury. The lighting design balances powerful, high-quality illumination for the display cases with a stunning decorative centerpiece, a custom yellow chandelier that adds a bold, artistic statement to the retail environment.
The lobby of a hotel is the first chapter of its story. Here, I designed a grand, welcoming space using a massive, cloud-like chandelier as the focal point. This is supported by precisely aimed downlights that accentuate the marble reception desks, ensuring the space is both awe-inspiring and functional.
In this residential foyer, light becomes the jewellery of the architecture. A cascading crystal chandelier appears to pour down the stairwell, creating a breathtaking first impression. This is complemented by integrated linear lighting and subtle wall washing to create layers of warmth and sophistication.
Office lighting can be both functional and inspiring. For this corporate reception, I designed a bespoke, free-flowing linear light fixture that serves as a sculptural element, guiding visitors into the space while providing excellent ambient illumination that breaks the monotony of a typical office.
In this all-day dining restaurant at the DoubleTree by Hilton, the lighting design creates a dynamic and inviting atmosphere. A custom cluster of copper-toned pendants provides warm, intimate light over the main seating area, while integrated architectural lighting highlights the room's scale and details.
This living space was designed for sophisticated comfort, using a moody, layered lighting scheme. I employed wall washing to create a soft glow on the textured feature wall, combined with discreet track lighting and elegant table lamps to build an environment that is both intimate and luxurious.
This video provides a complete tour of the Beauty Palace project, a high-end jewellery showroom. It showcases the integration of exterior facade lighting to create curb appeal, the grand interior ambiance, and the dramatic lighting of key architectural features like the central spiral staircase.
About Featured
Every project showcased here started with a Dialux simulation to predict light behavior before a single fixture was installed. I do not just suggest lights; I map the lux levels, plan the circuits for automation, and personally supervise the final focusing of beams to ensure the end result matches the architectural vision.
Lighting design is rarely about the fixture itself. It is about how the surface reacts to the source. In my projects, such as the Beauty Palace in Ambala or various residential foyers, I utilize techniques like wall grazing to reveal the texture of a space and linear profiles to guide movement. My process integrates with your architects from the beginning, ensuring lighting is not an afterthought but a core element of the structure.
My Technical Approach
Before we begin, I generate detailed technical documentation, including Reflected Ceiling Plans (RCP) and load planning. This ensures that when we discuss dimming protocols or DALI systems, the infrastructure is already built to support them.
Human-Centric Design
Lighting impacts your daily rhythm. For office and corporate spaces, I design tunable white systems that adjust to the time of day, enhancing productivity and well-being. In residential master suites, the focus shifts to glare elimination and warmth, ensuring your environment feels like a sanctuary when you need it to.
From Concept to Execution
Whether it is a grand hotel lobby or a specific residential zone, I follow a strict methodology:
- Conceptualization: We determine the mood—dramatic, functional, or cozy.
- Simulation: Dialux reporting validates our brightness levels.
- Specification: I recommend fixtures from global manufacturers based on your budget.
- Supervision: I am on-site to ensure the light is focused exactly where it creates the most impact.
My team at Illuminaty operates as a mix of designers and engineers. We do not deliver half-baked plans. We provide a complete roadmap for your space, ensuring that when the lights turn on, they do exactly what they were intended to do.
Illuminaty
I am Harkiran Kaur, founder of Illuminaty. My team and I view light as a fundamental building material, essential for defining how a space feels and functions. We turn technical lighting plans into environments that actually come alive.
