The Story Behind Homeground Cricket Academy
I’m a local cricketer who knows exactly what it takes to grind in Mumbai. I built this academy so you don't have to face the same struggles I did.
In this podcast with RVCJ, I shared my journey and the reason I started Homeground Cricket Academy. I talk about my own struggles as a young player and my commitment to building the best pitches so our local talent can compete with anyone.
I believe in leading by example. Here I am, back in the nets at my own academy, putting in the work. It's important for me to stay connected to the game and show my students that the grind never stops, no matter who you are.
About My Story: From Borivali to Building Champions
I personally learned how to prepare natural turf wickets from scratch because I know that practicing on concrete doesn't prepare you for the real game. My academy in Kandivali is designed to give you the exact facilities and time I never had growing up, so you can actually improve.
Back when I was starting out, being a Borivali-Kandivali ka ladka meant spending more time in local trains with a heavy kit bag than actually holding a bat. Traveling all the way to Churchgate for a 15-minute net session was the norm, not the exception. I built Homeground Cricket Academy to stop that cycle for the next generation of Mumbai cricketers.
My approach here is simple: if I put my name on the academy, the facilities have to be top class. That is why we focus heavily on maintaining professional-grade natural turf wickets. Whether you are a batsman looking to adjust to bounce or a bowler needing to hit your mark on grass, this is where you train. We don't just do basic net sessions. My program integrates physical conditioning with resistance tools and mental performance workshops because the game is won in the head long before you step on the field.
We provide a genuine pathway. From internal HGCA Cup tournaments to selection trials for MCA tournaments like the Kanga League, we give you the exposure you need. If you are serious about playing for Ranji or the IPL, bring your kit and be ready to put in the work. You get the same ground where international stars and IPL teams like KKR come to practice, right here in your neighborhood.
Homeground Cricket Academy
I’m Paul Valthaty. I founded this academy because I wanted to provide the serious practice conditions that were impossible to find when I was a young player in the city. If you are ready to put in the work, I am here to help you get there.
