Hockey-Specific Gym Training for Athletes
My gym workouts are built for the turf. We don't train like bodybuilders—we build explosive speed, tackling power, and endurance that lasts until the final whistle.
A look inside a total body gym session with my SAI STC athletes. We are working on key movements: the bench press for pushing power, barbell hip thrusts for explosive speed, shoulder presses for stability, and leg presses for lower body strength. Every exercise has a purpose on the hockey field.
The work is hard, but the joy is real. This is my women's team at SAI NCOE Delhi celebrating after a tough gym session. We train hard, but we always make time to build team spirit and have fun together.
About Hockey-Specific Gym Training
You won't find random bodybuilding routines here. We focus on hockey-specific movements like barbell hip thrusts for explosive sprints and heavy deadlifts for tackling power. We use video analysis to fix your form, because a strong muscle is useless if it doesn't translate to winning that critical 50-50 challenge on the turf.
We train for the game, not for the mirror. My philosophy, developed through my work at SAI and MDCNS, is simple: build an engine that lasts the full 60 minutes. Hockey is a sport of sudden stops, rapid starts, and high-intensity changes of direction. That is why we move away from standard, machine-based gym work. We use functional exercises that mirror the specific biomechanics of a hockey athlete.
Whether you are an outfielder needing first-step explosiveness or a goalkeeper working on reaction speed, we build your foundation from the ground up. My sessions combine intense physical conditioning with immediate technical feedback. We do not just run; we do uphill drills to build real-world stamina. We do not just lift; we do compound movements like the bench press to gain stability during physical contact.
And yes, it is hard. You will hear me shouting, 'Come on, jao jao jao!' because I want to see that intensity in your eyes. It is not all grind, though. We celebrate, we laugh, and we build that family environment because team spirit is just as important as physical strength. If you are ready to work hard and believe in yourself, I will push you every single day. Let us get to work and make sure you are ready for the next match.
