Classical Sitar Concerts and Traditional Baithaks in Bengaluru
Music is meant to be shared in person, not just practiced. From intimate baithaks to public therapeutic concerts, explore where we are performing next and how we bring Hindustani classical music to the community.
An announcement for 'Svaropachara', a therapeutic concert where I performed a sitar duet with my student Prateeksha Hugar for the Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation.
The poster for a Baithak presented by Alaap Sangeet Sabha. These intimate concerts are a great platform for both established artists and my students.

About this collection
Our baithaks are intentionally kept intimate to preserve the acoustic integrity of the sitar. We avoid large amplification setups whenever possible because the subtle resonance of the strings and the dialogue with the tabla player are best experienced in a quiet, focused room where you can hear every note clearly.
When you attend one of our events, you are not just an audience member. You are participating in a conversation between the artist and the listener, a core tenet of the Indian classical tradition. We believe that whether it is a morning session at the Suchitra Cinema or a therapeutic concert like Svaropachara at the Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation, the setting changes how the raag is received.
We organize these events through Alaap Sangeet Sabha to create a space where students can perform alongside their gurus and guest artists. This gives our students the exposure needed for stage confidence while providing the audience with a mix of established classical skill and fresh energy.
If you are looking to host a performance, consider the context. We offer:
- Intimate Baithaks: Best for private gatherings, living rooms, or small community halls where the sound of the sitar can be heard without heavy audio reinforcement.
- Svaropachara Sessions: Focused, meditative performances designed for healing, often suitable for hospitals, wellness centers, or quiet corporate retreats.
- Ensemble Concerts: Our Grand Sitar Symphony, where I perform with my family and senior students for weddings and large public events, bringing a rich, layered orchestral sound.
We are always looking for new venues to share this music. If you have an event and want to bring the sound of the sitar to your audience, reach out to discuss the requirements.

I am Vijay, and I see every performance as an offering. Whether I am playing for a public audience at an academy or leading a therapeutic Svaropachara session, my goal is to share the peace of Hindustani classical music with everyone present.
