About Custom Storytelling & Portraits
Drawing recognizable portraits or specific skylines on skin requires a level of detail that traditional motifs do not. I usually ask for clear, high-resolution photos of the couple or the specific landmarks beforehand so I can sketch the composition on paper first, ensuring the scale works perfectly for your hands before I ever pick up a cone.
When we talk about 'storytelling mehendi', we aren't just filling space with patterns. We are narrating your journey. Whether it is a replica of the city skyline where you met, or the portrait of your partner, my process involves a deep level of collaboration.
The Process Behind the Portrait
Unlike standard bridal mehendi, portrait work is about composition and shading. I focus on:
- Precision: Capturing the likeness requires fine-line work that is entirely different from heavy henna fillers.
- Balance: I ensure the portrait is surrounded by traditional elements, like Ganesha motifs or floral jaali, so the design flows naturally up the arm rather than looking like a sticker placed on the skin.
- Organic Quality: Because these designs take longer to execute, I use my signature organic henna mix. It provides a rich, deep stain that ensures every tiny detail—from the shading on a groom's turban to the windows on a skyline—is clearly visible once the color matures.
Why Custom Designs Take Time
Creating a custom portrait or story-based design is a joint effort. I need to know your requirements—symbols that matter to you, special dates, or specific motifs—a few weeks before the wedding. This allows me to pre-plan the grid layout on paper. If you have specific inspiration, please share it during our initial consultation. I am based in Yelahanka and travel across Bangalore for these detailed sessions, and I ensure we have ample time set aside so the design isn't rushed. Your mehendi is a permanent memory for your wedding day, and I am here to make sure it is a beautiful one.
