Giving your mother’s saree a new chapter. I transform cherished family heirlooms into custom gowns that blend deep sentimental value with modern, wearable design.

This is a perfect example of textile play and fine construction. I transformed a client's mother's old saree into this beautiful orange gown with statement puff sleeves, creating a new family heirloom.

About this collection

When I work with your heirloom saree, the first step is analyzing the fabric's condition. Since these are often delicate, I incorporate a soft tulle or crepe lining to provide the necessary structure for a modern gown silhouette without compromising the original weave. We will discuss which parts of the border you want to feature as highlights before I sketch the final design to ensure the original story of the piece remains intact.

Repurposing a saree is a delicate balance between preserving the past and creating something new you will actually wear. Many clients come to me with a Kanjeevaram or a silk saree that has sat in a cupboard for years, waiting for an occasion. My goal is to change that.

The Transformation Process

Every project begins with a conversation. We look at the saree, assess the fabric quality, and decide on the best cut to flatter your body while highlighting the fabric's heritage. Whether you prefer a floor-length A-line gown or a full-circle flare, I ensure the garment is functional.

Technical Construction

To make a saree wearable as a gown, it needs internal support. I use professional hard-net can-can underlayers and padded bustiers with princess cuts to ensure the dress holds its shape. We finish every gown with concealed side zippers and horsehair braid hemline finishing, which gives the fabric a clean, crisp edge. If your saree border is heavy, I place it strategically on the bodice or the hem, ensuring the weight is distributed properly so you can move comfortably at your event.

Why Choose This Path

Upcycling is not just about sustainability. It is about wearing a piece of your family history. Whether it is for a cocktail party, a wedding reception, or a milestone birthday, walking into a room wearing a gown made from your mother's saree is a powerful feeling. You get a one-of-a-kind outfit that no one else has, while keeping a piece of your heritage close to you.
