Hand-Sculpted Fondant Cake Toppers
Every character I sculpt is shaped by hand from sugar paste without using any moulds. Whether it is a whimsical storybook figure or a custom portrait, I craft these edible pieces to tell your specific story.
A close-up of the Meera figurine from my award-winning Krishna cake. I wanted to capture a sense of peace and devotion as she plays her ektara, with every detail from her expression to her instrument sculpted with care.
I was so thrilled to create this figurine for a young book lover. I tried to capture her sweet personality in this edible doll, surrounded by tiny, handmade books like Harry Potter and The Cruel Prince. It’s a cake that tells the story of her passion.
Look at this little pilot waving from her aeroplane! This handmade fondant topper was created for a second birthday, showing that even the smallest details, like the cute expression, are crafted with love to make the cake special.
This little Krishna cupcake topper, playing his flute, was part of my award-winning collection at the India Bake Show. The challenge was to bring the same level of detail and emotion to a miniature scale.
Creating this detailed astronaut figurine was an out-of-this-world experience! Every part of the suit and helmet is hand-shaped and assembled to create a realistic space explorer for a themed birthday cake.
A closer look at the handmade figurine on the swing from the fairy house cake. I love creating kinetic elements like this; it adds a touch of life and movement to the entire piece.
This cake topper was for a new dad's birthday, capturing that sweet, exhausting moment of bonding with a newborn. It’s these personal, relatable stories that I love to translate into sugar art.
Here is Po from Kung Fu Panda, complete with his bowl of dumplings. Capturing the likeness of beloved animated characters is a fun challenge, and it's all done by hand to get it just right.
A little peek into my process! Here you can see how I sculpt legs for a figurine. It all starts with a block of fondant and a few simple tools, shaping and defining the anatomy step by step.
The magic is in the details. This video shows the process of sculpting hands, one of the most expressive parts of a figurine. Each finger is shaped and detailed individually.
About My Signature Hand-Sculpted Figurines
Because I hand-sculpt every element without moulds, I need a minimum of 5 days to ensure the structure is solid and the details are precise. When you order, it helps if you can provide reference photos of the pose or outfit you have in mind. Since I use internal dowelling for support, these cakes are stable for transport, but I recommend keeping them in a cool, AC environment until the moment of cutting.
What makes these figurines different is that they are entirely made by hand. I do not use any moulds, which means every superhero, fairy, or custom portrait gets a unique look and expression. It is a process that requires patience and a steady hand, which is why I refer to my craft as 'ella ondu kale' (everything is an art).
The Process
Every piece begins with high-quality fondant or sugar paste. For larger or complex figures, I use internal dowelling to ensure they remain stable. I also mix mediums, using wafer paper for delicate details like wings or clothing textures, and cocoa butter for painting.
Why Hand-Sculpted Matters
Standard toppers often look generic, but when I sculpt a figure, I focus on the little things—the way a book is held, the expression on a face, or the specific accessories that matter to you. Because the sugar paste hardens over time, these figurines can also be preserved as a keepsake for years after the cake has been eaten.
Practical Details
- Stability: I reinforce structural cakes with internal dowels to handle Bangalore's humidity and transport.
- Planning: Please book at least 5 days in advance so I have time to model, dry, and detail your topper correctly.
- Delivery: I offer doorstep delivery across Bengaluru or pickup from my studio in HSR Layout.
