Before you commit to a frame, I create a digital layout. This lets you see exactly how your items will be spaced and how the colours will look against the matting, so there are no surprises when you finally hang it on your wall.
When you have items that mean something—a set of old currency notes, a collection of guitar pins from your travels, or a single meaningful pebble—standard frames just do not work. These objects have depth and texture, and they need a shadow box to really shine.
My approach starts with preservation. Everything I do uses acid-free matting and lignin-free backing boards. If you use cheap materials, over time, the acids will transfer to your keepsakes, causing yellowing or permanent damage. I make sure that doesn't happen. For items like medals or delicate artifacts, I use non-invasive mounting techniques like T-hinging, so the piece stays secure without being glued down. You can move or remove it later without a scratch.
Then there is the design. A shadow box needs to be deep enough that the glass does not press against your object, but not so deep that it looks like a cavern. I help you choose the right moulding—whether a clean white finish to let the object stand out or a solid wood frame for a classic look. If you are worried about glare or UV damage from sunlight, we can use museum-grade glass. This provides 99% UV protection and makes the glass look almost invisible, so the focus stays entirely on your collection.
