Real moments, raw emotion. These portraits capture people exactly as they are—no studio lights, no posing, just life as it happens.

A striking close-up portrait of a child with freckles and intense blue eyes, his direct and soulful gaze creating a powerful connection.

A young girl smiles warmly as she holds her infant sibling, a heartwarming black and white portrait of love and responsibility in a rural setting.

A child's face emerges from the dark water, their eyes wide and captivating in a dramatic and artistic black and white portrait that blurs the line between life and art.

Four friends play together in the water, their joy and camaraderie captured from above in a lively black and white photograph about friendship.

Two boys splash and play in the Ganga river in Bihar during the early morning, a candid shot full of energy and the simple joys of childhood.

A woman in Bihar playfully lifts her veil, looking towards the camera with a gentle smile in a simple yet elegant black and white portrait.

About Portraits of India: Faces & Friendships

Here is the thing about my portraits: you will not find studio lights or instructions to smile. I work strictly with natural light, whether it is the harsh midday sun or the soft mist at dawn. We meet where you feel most comfortable, and I wait for that one genuine glance where you forget I am even there.

When I approach a portrait, I look for the story behind the face. Photography is not just about making someone look good, it is about capturing the person as they exist in their own world. People often ask me if they need to prepare for a shoot, and my answer is simple: bring yourself. I do not believe in forced smiles or stiff poses.

The Documentary Approach

My photography style leans heavily into documentary work. I look for the fleeting moments, like a shared laugh between friends or a quiet moment of introspection. This approach works for families who want memories that feel like a snapshot of their real lives, or for individuals who want an authentic, raw profile update.

Practical Details

Every session is an investment of time, usually 3 to 4 hours. We pick one location, whether it is your home, your workspace, or a meaningful spot in the city. I provide 25 to 30 high-resolution images, edited to bring out the mood rather than changing reality. You will notice that about 30 to 40 percent of my final edit is always in monochrome. Black and white strips away the distraction of color, letting the emotion and the lines on a person's face take center stage.

Why This Works

If you want something airbrushed and heavily retouched, I am not the right person. But if you want portraits that look like they belong in a photo essay, let us talk. We will find that rhythm, use the available light, and capture the real person behind the photograph.
