Interactive Veena Workshops
Join a collaborative, hands-on musical experience where we bring the veena out of the concert hall and into a space designed for collective learning and discovery.
Sound check in full swing with the entire veena ensemble on stage at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. Seeing so many veenas together, ready to create music, is always a powerful sight.
Here is a glimpse into a composition session for 'Meera Tarangini'. We gather in a small room, but the ideas and music are huge, involving talented musicians on various instruments.

Rehearsing with my new band in Amsterdam for an upcoming show. It was a huge hit with the Dutch audience, and I love the energy of collaborating with international artists.
Posing with my bandmates after a successful first concert of our tour in Groningen. These collaborations are a key part of my musical journey, blending different sounds and cultures.
About this collection
When you join these sessions, do not worry about being a professional musician. I focus on making Carnatic music accessible, so we often sit on the floor in a traditional ensemble setup to really feel the rhythm. Just bring your curiosity, as I will guide you through the basics of the veena and ensemble synchronization in a comfortable, group-oriented space.
My workshops are designed to strip away the intimidation that often surrounds classical music. I have developed these sessions at the Tarangini Arts Foundation to focus on the joy of collective learning. Whether we are preparing for a large production like the 50-member Meera Tarangini ensemble or conducting a smaller, focused session, the goal remains the same: to get you playing.
We cover everything from fundamental fingering techniques and gamakas to ensemble synchronization and improvisation basics. You do not need a formal background to start, as I break down complex concepts into simple, manageable pieces.
For those attending our masterclasses, we provide a senior disciple to assist with tuning and posture correction, ensuring you get individual attention even in a group setting. It is always a pleasure to see students who start in these workshops eventually go on to explore their own musical paths.
The workshops typically require a venue with carpeted flooring to allow for our traditional seating arrangement. We provide all the necessary musical notation digitally a week in advance so you can come prepared. If you have been looking for an honest, hands-on way to connect with Carnatic music, I would love to have you join us.
